Three Potential F.A Cup Upsets for the 3rd Round on Saturday

will-buckley-005 Three Potential F.A Cup Upsets for the 3rd Round on Saturday

There is always a couple of upsets in the FA Cup Third Round and the first one could come in the very first tie kicking off on Saturday.

Here we take a look at the potential upsets for this weekend and the recommended bets for those ties.

Brighton v Newcastle

Last season this fixture was played out, and Brighton ran out 1-0 winners in front of the TV cameras so don’t be surprised to see another upset here. Newcastle are on a dreadful run of results despite not playing all that badly but their lack of an ability to defend will be a real concern. Brighton have not been setting the world alight in the Championship this season but their recent defeat to Watford was the first time in seven matches they had been beaten at home.

Side with Brighton to get the F.A Cup third round underway with an upset.

Recommended Bet: Brighton to win at 7/4 with Paddy Power

Bolton v Sunderland

On a twitter poll this morning (@thatsagoal) this is the match-up that was mentioned the most to be an upset. Sunderland are still over reliant on Steven Fletcher to score goals, and he has stopped scoring. They have lost three times in their last four on the road and it could be Bolton who make it to round four. A lowly 16th in the Championship doesn’t tell the full story of Wanderers this season, they are strong in front of goal and have recently beat Birmingham and Charlton at the Reebok stadium.

Recommended Bet: Bolton to win at 9/5 with Coral

Wigan v Bournemouth

This one looks to have upset written all over it. Wigan have lost three of their last four at home (all be it against Arsenal, City and United) without scoring a goal and have a tendency to be vulnerable to an upset. In recent seasons Wigan have been knocked out of this competition by Swindon Town and Notts County. With another relegation battle looming Martinez will probably rest some first team players against a Bournemouth side who will smell blood, and want to keep their phenomenal recent run going. No defeat in 16 matches and seven unbeaten on the road signals a potential upset here and the prices even allows us to factor in the draw to our bet.

Recommended Bet: Bournemouth or draw at Evens with Boylesports
