Madagascar vs Tunisia Preview

Madagascar’s first AFCON appearance has gone unimaginably well for them. Despite reaching the last 8, Madagascar remain 33/1 outsiders to lift the trophy. They will face a tough opponent in Tunisia, priced as 4^th favourites by many bookmakers.

Madagascar surprised many by topping their group to qualify for the knockout rounds. They sealed their unlikely passage with an impressive 2-0 victory over one the pre-tournament favourites, Nigeria. Barea faced a tough test against DR Congo in the last 16 but put in another admirable display, taking the Leopards to penalties. Madagascar converted all four penalty kicks, showing the confidence the underdogs are currently playing with.

Tunisia drew all three of their group games, narrowly qualifying ahead of Angola and Mauritania. The Carthage Eagles also needed penalties to reach the Quarter Finals, having drawn with Ghana. Tunisia may have failed to win a game in 90 minutes thus far but they should not be underestimated. There’s little doubt that Tunisia are the better team on paper and are expected to progress.

The neutral’s adopted team for this year’s AFCON, Madagascar will have a lot of support going into this tie. They are full of belief and as unlikely as it may be, an upset is not off the table.

However, we’re hedging our bets on this one. We’re not quite brave enough to back a Madagascan victory but we expect goals. Madagascar’s matches have seen an average of 2.75 goals so 6/4 for over 2.5 goals in the game looks enticing.

As previously mentioned, Tunisia have yet to win in 90 minutes, but we think they have the experience to navigate past their opponents eventually.
