The weekend’s cup action saw many a coupon busted by the results at Oldham and Leeds United, but it is back to league action this Tuesday, and I have selected three results that will return a very enticing price of 10/1.

Aston Villa vs Newcastle United

The writing is on the wall for Paul Lambert I’m afraid.  His side were dumped out of their second cup in the space of a week by lower league opposition, and have not managed a league win in their last six games.  Lambert has already stated that there is no money available to bring in new players before the end of the transfer window, so he must rely on his young inexperienced team who look devoid of any confidence to save his job.

His counterpart Alan Pardew is under similar pressure at St James’ Park, but he has had the luxury of a chairman willing to back him extensively in the transfer market.  The new French arrivals to LeToon have had over a week to settle in their new surroundings, and could provide the much-needed boost to the Geordie’s injury-ravaged squad.  Newcastle have yet to win on their travels this season, a statistic that will surely end soon, and a trip to Villa Park I feel, will be their best chance of getting their first three points away from home.

Newcastle (Draw No Bet) is priced at Evens if you are looking for a safer option, but I feel the new Gallic feel to Le Toon Army will pick up their first away win of the season.

Recommendation: Newcastle to win @ 9/5

Stoke City vs Wigan Athletic

Stoke have hit a poor run of form, losing their last three league games and also losing out to Manchester City in the FA Cup at the weekend.

Roberto Martinez would have been furious at how his team reacted to going a goal up last weekend at home to Sunderland, only to be on the wrong end of a 3-2 defeat.

Wigan are one of the very few sides who have a good record at the Britannia Stadium.  You have to go back to 2009 to the last they were beaten there, and the corresponding fixture last season finished in a 2-2 draw.

The Latics traditionally start to pick up points at this time of year, and Martinez knows how to set out his side when travelling to Stoke.  I feel that Wigan are good for at least a draw at the Britannia, and I am including them with a handicap of +1 goal.

Recommendation: Wigan (+1) @ 4/5

Bristol City vs Watford

Watford have the best away record in the Championship and are on a fine run of form at the moment, winning five of their last six league games.  They comfortably beat Nottingham Forest 3-0 away from home at the weekend, and have scored fifteen goals in their last five league games.

Despite their 2-1 victory over Ipswich on Saturday, Bristol City remain at the bottom of the table, losing twenty-two of their twenty-eight league games this season.  They have conceded the most goals of any team in the league at home this season, whereas Watford have managed an impressive thirty-two away goals from fourteen matches.

Gianfranco Zola’s side have automatic promotion firmly in their sights, and I believe they will continue their good run of form on Tuesday and account for Bristol City.

Recommendation: Watford to win @ 6/5
