Betting Tips and Prediction for Reading vs Swansea on Saturday

Swansea Laudrup.jpg

When Swansea played Yeovil last week it was a one sided game where Swansea scored 5 without conceding and they continued their impressive performances throughout the pre-season campaign with a 2-0 win away at Exeter last Sunday.

They will face one of the toughest pre-season fixtures to date on Saturday though where they meet one of last seasons relegated sides, Reading.

Reading have had a mixed pre-season campaign four games in, they have two wins under their belt coming against Wycombe Wanderers where they won 3-1, and the second victory coming away to FC Olhanense. The other two games saw them draw 1-1 away to Belenenses, and their most recent game saw them lose 1-0 away to Bristol City. Whilst these games may be seen as a ‘glorified training session’ to some supporters, Reading will be looking for a better performance in this game as it comes a week before they open their Championship campaign at home to Ipswich.

Swansea will also be looking to get a good performance in as they kick off their Europa League journey next Thursday with a home tie to Swedish side Malmo.

On that basis I suspect that Swansea will give a bit of variation to the side and it’s unlikely we’ll see their strongest side on the pitch for 90 minutes, however I believe Reading will be looking to field a fairly strong team and it may not be that different to the team they line up with against Ipswich the following week. Le Fondre and Pogrebnyak could be dangerous up top against a weakened Swansea defence and I can see goals coming from these players.

Overall, Reading look like standout value currently priced at 9/5 with William Hill, with Swansea the 6/5 favourites and the draw at 11/5. If Swansea are to field a stronger side I expect that those players will feature in the first half and it would be a surprise to not see them bag a goal, so it may also be worth backing the Reading win and both teams to score which is currently priced at 4/1.

This will be Readings final first team pre-season friendly prior to the season starting and both the club and the supporters will want a positive performance from their team and I think the 9/5 represents value. Swansea will already have one eye on Thursday’s Europa League clash with Malmo and will probably use this as more of a training session ahead of that tie.  However, as we saw last week these games can prove us completely wrong, so it’s certainly not one to get too involved with.
