Chelsea vs Sunderland Betting Tips – No Luck for Black Cats

Rafa Benitez should be looking forward to this fixture, as for once he will not be the only manager under the spotlight as his opposite number, Paolo Di Canio, takes charge of Sunderland for the first time since joining the club.

Paolo Di Canio looks to have a tough challenge on his hands to ensure that Sunderland aren’t floating around the relegation danger zone come the middle of May. Sunderland are currently sitting in 16th position, only 1 point off the relegation zone and without a win since 19th January.

Playing Chelsea away in them circumstances would normally leave the fans expecting another game without collecting any points, but if you look at Sunderland’s remaining fixtures it’s tough to see where they are going to collect any more points so they will be desperate to collect something here.

Chelsea are beatable, that’s been proved numerous times this season, most recently by Southampton. However I feel that Chelsea are in a similar situation to Sunderland, and they have a tough set of league fixtures still, alongside the Europa Cup and FA Cup. They sit just 2 points ahead of Arsenal now in 4th position, and 2 points behind Tottenham, Chelsea will see this fixture as a good opportunity to maintain the pressure on sides around them.

These games have seen plenty of goals in previous encounters, including a 3-1 victory for Chelsea in the reverse fixture back in December, and in previous seasons Chelsea have won 4-2 away from home during the 2010/2011 season and 7-2 in this fixture back in the 2009/2010 season. However, with Chelsea facing a tough Europa League tie against Rubin Kazan on Thursday there could be some tired legs on the pitch and I can see an early goal for Chelsea and then a fairly slow paced game which will see Chelsea happy to sit back and defend that 1 goal lead.

I expect Chelsea will collect 3 points here, but I am not anticipating a lively affair.
