Here are 5 Value first goal scorer bets of 4/1 or better that if backed evenly I hope will make us very happy come MOTD tonight, all the prices below are with Betway.

Southampton V’s Swansea – Jose Fonte (Southampton) 28/1 EW

Picked him on Monday to score against QPR at 33/1 EW and despite his failure to do so I am happy stick by him for the same reasons, he is the clubs second highest scorer after Lambert this season and despite playing some good football Southampton still look most likely to score from set plays delivered by Danny Fox.  Swansea are playing great, if I were going to back anyone outright it would be them, I am banking on a quick start from Southampton and a bullet header from Fonte!!

Reading V’s Norwich- Grant Holt (Norwich) 7/1

The Canaries hit man has scored 3 goals in his 10 appearances for Norwich this season, I have a feeling this is going to be a hotly contested early season 6 pointer and that is an environment where a proven goal poacher like holt should excel.  7/1 is reasonable considering Reading are conceding plenty of goals both home and away (15 in the last 4 at home, including the seven Arsenal put past them), so the chances of Norwich snatching the lead are good.

Everton V’s Sunderland- Leighton Baines 12/1 EW

Has scored twice in 10 appearances this season to date and is the appointed penalty taken for the toffee’s, not shy of bending in a free kick a few times a season; Everton have been excellent so far this season and I expect this to continue with Baines at the forefront.  I expect Sunderland to play defensively and may well be under pressure for considerable periods of the game, this makes a Baines free-kick or penalty goal significantly more likely, 12/1 will pay 4/1 on your EW stake if Baines scores in the first 5 goals of the match.

Wolverhampton Wanderers V’s Brighton & Hove Albion– Bakary Sako 13/2

Neither Wolves nor Brighton have scored or conceded more than 2 goals in their last 5 matches so I am not expecting an open game.  With that said a tight game decided by a set piece could suit dead ball specialist Sako perfectly, he takes the free kicks and strikes the ball powerfully from distance, with both teams struggling a little a Sako goal and 1-0 to Wanderers seems entirely possible to me (now I have said that expect it to be 3-3, as long as Sako scores first no problem).

Aston Villa V’s Man Utd – Christian Benteke (Aston Villa) 15/2

He is Villa’s joint top scorer this season (admittedly this is with just 2 goals) and he has scored his goals in 7 games this makes him far better value than Agbonlahor;  who is 8/1 despite having scored just once since this season and 6 in his last 40 appearances.  Now Manchester Utd have been starting games extremely slowly and conceding early in the majority of matches this year – I expect them to win in the end, but could very well concede to Villa early.
