Football accumulator tips for this weekend’s Saturday afternoon matches including the reasons for each pick and which bookmaker to use on our accumulator bet.
League action resumes in the top two tiers of English football this weekend with Wigan and Bolton both struggling for points in the Championship. Their respective games feature in this Saturday Accumulator alongside League One leaders Portsmouth’s home clash with Blackpool. Fixtures at Fleetwood and Mansfield complete the selections for the footy acca.
Aston Villa to beat Wigan
Bristol City to beat Bolton
Fleetwood to beat Oxford
Portsmouth to beat Blackpool
Mansfield to beat Yeovil
When fielding a weakened starting eleven in their 3-0 FA Cup defeat by Swansea last weekend, Aston Villa failed to find the net in a game for the first time since the beginning of November. Villa will now enter this Championship contest at Wigan seeking a fifth victory in six away matches in league action with the hosts winless in their last eight fixtures. The Latics are also struggling to score goals having lost each of their last three games at the DW Stadium without netting. An away victory is predicted.
Although they claimed a 5-2 home win against Walsall in FA Cup action last weekend, the Championship form of Bolton remains a concern especially on their travels. The Trotters have failed to win an away match since the beginning of September and enter this game having lost their last four fixtures on the road. Hosts Bristol City can be an unpredictable team but they are unbeaten in five competitive contests at Ashton Gate where they denied promotion-challenging Norwich last month. A third consecutive home win is likely for City.
After losing four consecutive games without scoring a goal, Oxford earned a quarter-final berth in the EFL Trophy in midweek when needing penalties to beat Cheltenham after a 1-1 draw. Yet ahead of this away fixture in League One, Oxford have yet to win a league game on the road this season and face a Fleetwood team considered unfortunate to lose their last two matches at Highbury. The Cod Army had earned sixteen points from six previous home games before suffering a heavy defeat by Portsmouth when reduced to ten players. Fleetwood led in that game and they could resume winning ways on Saturday.
League One leaders Portsmouth earned a fourth consecutive competitive win when beating Southend 2-0 in midweek EFL Trophy action and they will enter this home match having won four of their five previous league fixtures at Fratton Park. Opponents Blackpool were considered as potential promotion rivals for Pompey earlier in the season but just one victory in seven League One games has dented those ambitions, and they have netted just once in their last four league fixtures on the road. A Portsmouth win is likely.
A series of wretched results since the beginning of November has resulted in Yeovil sliding down the League Two table and very close to the relegation zone. Just three points have been earned during that time period with no more than one goal scored in any league match. Hosts Mansfield suffered a rare league defeat last weekend when narrowly beaten 3-2 at in-form Carlisle although they were reduced to ten players for the second period. The Stags are unbeaten on home soil in league action since mid-September and they should claim a fourth win in five league fixtures at Field Mill.
