Basel vs Manchester United predictions and betting tips for the Champions League match this week. See our betting preview, team news and head to head stats for the clash below.
On Wednesday St Jacob-Park will see Basel take on English giants Manchester United in a group stage Champions League game. The hosts are currently second in Group A after four games, on six points, they have won two and lost two. One of these losses was a 3-0 defeat away at Old Trafford at the start of the campaign. An impressive 5-0 win over Portuguese side Benfica and a convincing 2-0 away win at CSKA Moscow were followed up by Moscow getting instant payback and beating the Swiss side in Basel by two goals to one.
The visitors top the group after winning every one of their games so far and incredibly only conceding one goal in all four games and this was away in Moscow when they were 4-1 winners. Both Moscow and Basel can be incredibly difficult places to go with the fans being so loud and active as they often are in European countries, so this will be no walkover by any stretch, and the pressure will be on José’s men as they need at least a point to secure their place in the knockout stages. Even with another game to go, Mourinho will want to grab the points now rather than leave it late.

Basel vs Man United Predictions
With both teams having good seasons so far, United of course slightly better with four wins in the UCL and sitting second in the Premier League, we can expect them both full of confidence and having lots of chances. Both sides need points to qualify with Basel preferably needing all six points from their next two games and United only needing one to guarantee their place. With a lot of fixtures coming up for United in a short space of time, Mourinho may make changes and play a slightly weaker squad but it won’t be many, he will be looking for the points now to cement their place rather than leaving it until the last game.
Paul Pogba and Zlatan Ibrahimovic made their returns from injury against Newcastle at the weekend, giving United a boost as they can struggle when striker Romelu Lukaku isn’t on the score sheet, although that is rare. Zlatan is unlikely to be able to start but they still have great talent like Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial and Henrikh Mkhitaryan who can still occasionally find the net. United should have the quality to find a result here and make sure they qualify for the knockout stages. That’s why the first of today’s Basel vs Manchester United predictions is Manchester United to win at 21/20 with William Hill.
Both Teams to Score
United will go to Basel looking for the win, they have won all four games so far and are high on confidence and scoring goals, the problem for them is being away. Basel have been really good this campaign, scoring eight goals in their last three games with six of these being at home, add this to the fact that Basel fans are typical European fans, very loud and very intimidating, and they will make life difficult for the players. Both teams have scored in four of Basel’s last five games in all competitions and four of the last five games between them and United. Both teams to score is our second Basel vs Man United prediction, the odds are 10/11 with Ladbrokes.
Anytime Goalscorer Tips
Youngster Marcus Rashford has currently got eight goals in all competitions this season, with two of these coming in the Champions League group stages. After four games he has only started one and scored two goals with one of these being against Basel. With a lot of games coming up Jose may be wanting to rest a couple of players so Rashford should start, and with a possible 90 mins to show he deserves a first team place I am backing him to score anytime to complete my Basel vs Manchester United betting tips. Marcus Rashford is 21/10 to score anytime with Paddy Power.

Basel vs Manchester United Team News
Striker Ricky Van Wolfswinkel is out with an injury. Shot stopper Germano Vailati and right back Omar Gaber are more than likely missing for Basel due to injuries and midfielder Taulant Xhaka is suspended.
A slightly weaker squad is to be expected from United with a lot of league fixtures coming up in the near future. Phil Jones, who got injured on international duty with England in their game against Germany is certain to miss out, along with Eric Bailly and Michael Carrick. Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who made his return from injury on Saturday with a substitute appearance against Newcastle, is unlikely to be ready to start just yet.
Basel vs Manchester United Head to Head
The sides have only played five times with the results tipping in the favour of United after two United wins, two draws and one Basel win. The last time they faced off was earlier this campaign, in September, when the Red Devils played host to the Swiss club at Old Trafford and won by a convincing three goals to nil. This was the only time both teams haven’t scored in their five games.
