Friday 26th August Accumulator Tips
Marseille v Lorient – Draw
Lorient haven’t managed to keep all their players on the pitch this campaign and should they manage to maintain all 11 here, they might make it hard for Marseille to break them down. This looked like a game that the home side should win, but I can’t back a side who have won just 1 of 117 matches in front of their own fans. They drew 0-0 with Toulouse on the opening day of the season and then lost 2-1 at Guingamp. There is still uncertainty over the ownership of Marseille and there’s the possibility that this could be having an effect. But, Marseille are not for trusting. Lorient have conceded 6 in both of their games so far, but they were 2 up on the opening day before the dismissal and they do carry a threat going forward.
Espanyol v Malaga – Espanyol win
Espanyol were thumped last week by Sevilla, but they did look dangerous coming forward in that particular game. They couldn’t keep the opposition, but Malaga on their travels is a much easier task so Espanyol are the La Liga selection for this accumulator tip. The away side just haven’t been able to put it all together on the road recently and they didn’t score in any of their last three away games (going back to last season). Espanyol also have a good record against Malaga and are unbeaten in the last 8 meetings between the sides. They should be able to establish their dominance here. I’m not expecting another 6-4 and you would imagine the home crowd don’t need to be put through that, but they should get the job done.

Vitesse v FC Utrecht – Vitesse win
FC Utrecht always possess a threat in Sebastian Haller, but they are having real problems defending. They have conceded 6 goals in 3 matches and you’re going to leave yourself with an uphill task if you gift the opponents a 2 goal lead. They’ve played AZ and PSV, two difficult games, but they let Heerenveen have a couple as well. Vitesse have been decent and have picked up 6 points from a possible 9. Their only defeat came against Roda JC, who have made a very decent start to the season and they had 24 shots in that game, but just couldn’t find a way through. A similar performance and FC Utrecht could be put to the sword here and land the Eredivie selection in this accumulator tip.
Lyngby v Nordsjaelland – Lyngby win
Six games into the Danish Superliga season and Lyngby have a made a decent fist of it since getting promoted. After failing to score on the opening day, they’ve hit 8 goals in their next 5 matches. They drew 0-0 with Aarhus in their last home match before a narrow away defeat Randers. Nordsjaelland have been poor and are struggling to keep sides out. 14 goals conceded in 5 games leaves lots of work to do at the back. It’s four defeats from the last five for the away side and travelling to Lyngby isn’t ideal for a side low on confidence and leaky at the back. Both teams are likely to score in this one, but back the home side to come out on top.
Charleroi v Eupen – Charleroi win
Eupen got a little lucky with their equaliser against Anderlecht at the weekend. The 2-2 draw at home to the European regulars was very creditable for the newly promoted side, but they are likely to come undone on the road. First of all, the goal took a huge deflection, but Anderlecht were coming off the back of a tough European outing in midweek. Charleroi remain unbeaten this season and have won 1-0 twice. They have conceded just a single goal in four games and have beaten the likes of KV Mechelen whilst picking up draws with Standard Liege. Eupen will undoubtedly pick up points at home this season, but on their travels it’s going to be much tougher.
