Everton to beat Liverpool

Super Sunday kicks off with the Merseyside Derby as Everton play host to Liverpool with just one point separating the two sides heading into the weekend. The home side are enjoying a far better to start to their season and have lost just once so far in seven games. Since beating Chelsea in their previous home game, they’ve drawn at Swansea before overcoming West Brom last Monday after a superb comeback saw them overturn a 2-0 deficit. This should give them plenty of confidence heading into this clash with their arch rivals who have looked fair from convincing so far.

Liverpool finally got back to winning ways last weekend although were pushed all the way by Aston Villa. They went four previous league matches without a win before that, and also needed penalties to overcome Carlisle in the League Cup. A draw in the Europa League on Thursday is not the ideal preparation for a match of this magnitude, and if Everton can continue their good run of form; you’d have to fancy them to take the three points in this one.

Real Madrid to beat Atletico Madrid

Real Madrid have emerged as title favourites given the injury to Lionel Messi, but will be firmly tested when they travel to city rivals Atletico this weekend. Rafa Benitez has started life well at Real, and is yet to taste defeat after four wins and two draws. Scoring goals for fun as expected, yet perhaps most impressively conceding just once so far, ensures they look good value to pick up another win this weekend against an inconsistent Atletico side.

The home team suffered a disappointing defeat in the Champions League in midweek, and have already lost twice in the league this term having gone down 1-0 to Villarreal last weekend. They haven’t quite hit the heights of the previous few campaigns, and will need to improve if they are to take anything from this match as their rivals look to climb to the top of La Liga.

Bayern Munich to beat Borussia Dortmund

The top two in the Bundesliga meet this weekend, and although we are only seven games into the season it almost feels as if Bayern Munich can take a big step towards regaining the league title as they look to maintain their perfect record. They’ve been in imperious form once again, winning all seven matches; scoring 23 goals and conceding just three. Another goal fest in their midweek Champions League fixture highlighted just how good they are at present, and given the red hot form of Robert Lewandowski who has netted 10 in his last three; it’s hard to see any side stopping them at present.

This task belongs to Borussia Dortmund on Sunday, who have stuttered in recent weeks following a great start to the campaign. Having too won all their opening matches, they have now gone three without a win; drawing twice in the league and once in Europe to leave themselves four points off the pace. They have clearly improved from last season’s disappointment but a disappointing result at home to Damrstadt last weekend has seen them lose their early momentum. They certainly have the players to give Munich a fright and should present their biggest test so far, but again it looks hard to oppose the home side as you wonder who can stop on current form.

PSG to beat Marseille

It’s still early days as far as the season is concerned but it already appears as if PSG are going to run away with this year’s Ligue 1 title. They face Marseille this weekend and once again it’s hard to make a case for anything other than a home win. The Parisians remain unbeaten in eight games; winning six and dropping just two points at home this season which came courtesy of a couple of awful goalkeeping errors. They’ve been scoring for fun and have racked up seven goals in their previous two matches, with just one against.

Marseille meanwhile find themselves closer to the bottom of the league after a disappointing start. They’ve managed just two victories and have picked up just a point on the road from three attempts; netting just once on their travels. A trip to PSG represents the biggest test in French football, and given the amount of attacking quality at the home side’s disposal; they look a good bet to pick up another win.
