Europa League Accumulator Tips
Ostersunds vs Arsenal – Arsenal to win
Ostersunds really are on a Roy of the Rovers style fairy-tale at the moment. Just a few years ago they were in the Fourth division of Sweden’s football league. But now, under the guidance of Englishman Graham Potter, they are featuring in a European competition for the first time. The fact they have got this far is way behind the sides wildest dreams, but they face a tough test to progress any further as they host Arsenal in the next round. Although the Swedish side are in decent form domestically, they aren’t used to facing the likes of Arsene Wenger’s side. Saturdays North London derby defeat to Spurs has basically ended the Gunners’ chances of finishing in the top four this season. That means, their only realistic way of qualifying for next seasons Champions League is to win this competition. It would be no surprise to see Wenger name all his big guns here, so we expect Aubameyang, Mkhitaryan and co to hand the gunners an advantage going in to the second leg and get our football accumulator tips off to a flyer.
Copenhagen vs Atletico Madrid – Atletico Madrid to win
The second pick for today’s football tips comes from the Parken Stadium in Denmark where Copenhagen host Diego Simeone’s Atletico Madrid side. The home side are struggling domestically, sitting in fourth place in the league. That may not seem too bad, but when you compare the opposition to today’s visitors, it does seem an issue. Copenhagen’s last European game ended in a 5-0 defeat to Zenit, so the gulf in class is there to see. Simeone’s side are flying in Spain, they have now climbed to second spot in the league. That is in no small part thanks to their phenomenal defensive record. They have only conceded nine goals this year, that’s way less than any other side in the top five leagues in Europe. Its hard to see the Danes breaking them down here and we certainly fancy the Spaniards to nick at least one goal themselves.
Lyon vs Villarreal – Lyon to win
Lyon suffered a shock home defeat to Rennes on Sunday in a controversial game, that saw Lyon not awarded a stone wall penalty. That does look to be a blip though, as the French side had only lost once at home all season before Sunday night. They play some very free flowing football and always tend to score regardless of the opposition. They are averaging two goals a game at home and that’s the amount they scored when beating runaway leaders PSG last month. Villarreal sit in fifth place in La Liga, but the majority of their points have come at home. They have already lost five games on the road in the league and will struggle to outscore today’s opposition. Villarreal haven’t managed to score more than one goal in a game in any of their last six away games, so we expect the French side to have too much going forward for today’s visitors.
Napoli vs RB Leipzig – Napoli to win
The last pick in the Europa League acca comes from Italy, in that what could be a really entertaining game. Both sides are flying high in their respective domestic leagues and will be looking to carry their form here on Thursday. Napoli are formidable at home, their only blemish to a perfect record is a 1-0 loss to reigning champions Juventus. Since then they have won their last nine games there and with players like Dries Mertens and Jose Callejon in irresistible form, they look like they could be the team to beat in the competition. Leipzig are flying in the league in second place only behind expectant winners Bayern Munich. However, their away form leaves a lot to be desired. They have lost more games than they have won on the road and the fact they have only kept one clean sheet in their last 12 should play right into Napoli’s hands. This game has all the makings of an attacking shootout, given both sides attacking capability’s. If that happens we would back the Italians to prevail.
