Football Accumulator Tips for 26th January

Nottingham Forest v QPR – Nottingham Forest to win

Forest are on a very decent run and have collected 14 points from the last eight games. If you were being picky, you’d suggest they have drawn too many matches, but back-to-back victories over Middlesbrough and Bolton have been impressive. Four goals scored, none conceded in the last two games should give them confidence as they welcome JFH’s QPR to town. It’s now 11 games since Forest last suffered defeat and they’re unbeaten in nine home games. The R’s have improved significantly under Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink and they’re unbeaten in three themselves, but they have only drawn with Blackburn and Wolves and beaten Rotherham. Forest’s defensive stats are pretty impressive with just 25 goals conceded in 28 league games and they can hold off QPR here who have scored just 37% of their goals away from home.

Shrewsbury v Oldham – Shrewsbury win

Shrewsbury bust coupons worldwide on Saturday with their second half comeback and last minute winner against Burton. That should give them enough confidence coming into this to beat fellow strugglers Oldham. The Latics sold Mark Yeates and their main goal threat Danny Philliskirk to rivals Blackpool and they are struggling to put together a sequence of results. John Sheridan is in the hot seat and there’s no doubt, he will have an effect. They lost to out-of-form Bury at the weekend, a game which may have been seen as winnable. It’s just two points collected from eight games now and you have to fear for them. Micky Mellon’s side beat Cardiff in the FA Cup to set up a meeting with Sheffield Wednesday and they do have the ability to carve out results. Hopefully they’ve put their 7-1 mauling at the hands of Chesterfield well and truly behind them.

Fleetwood v Walsall – Walsall win

Walsall missed out on going top at the weekend as a 95th minute equaliser from Blackpool’s Danny Philliskirk denied them all three points. With Burton slipping up, the Saddlers will be annoying they didn’t overtake them. They oppose a North Western opponent for the second time in quick succession here as they visit Fleetwood. Steven Pressley’s side held Doncaster to a 0-0 draw here on Saturday, but they might find Walsall a tougher act. The away form for the Midland side is pretty impressive and although Fleetwood aren’t bad at home, they’ve won two out of the last seven games and they aren’t scoring enough goals. Walsall have lost just once away from home all season and it’s hard to see them slipping up here.

Leyton Orient v Newport – Leyton Orient to win

It was a positive start for new boss Kevin Nolan. He named himself on the bench, but didn’t make it onto the pitch during his side’s 2-0 victory over Wycombe on Saturday. It was an important victory and his team followed his instructions perfectly. Every new manager wants a striker who is in form and Jay Simpson is fit and firing. He could be the difference here as Newport continue to be a little suspect at the back. Warren Feeney will need time to find his feet, although he will be delighted that his side fought back from 2-0 down against Dagenham. I don’t think they’ll have enough here. Despite the sacking of Ian Hendon, Leyton Orient have the 8th best home form in the league taking 22 points at Brisbane Road and they should make it 25 here.

Southport v Forest Green – Draw

Going to end with a draw to bump up the odds as two in-form National League sides battle it out on Merseyside. Southport are now unbeaten in eight and looking good as they climb the table. They’ve conceded just three times in five matches with successive 0-0 draws on the road against Bromley and Chester. They’ve beaten Wrexham, Bromley and Barrow here recently and should give high flying Forest Green a bit of a game. The visitors have won four successive matches, but just one of their last four away matches. They did get a creditable draw away at Cheltenham and I think they will put up a good resistance to the in-form hosts. These two have taken 39 points collectively from the last 16 games and I think they will cancel each other out as neither will want to surrender their unbeaten run.
