How to bet on the anytime goalscorer market in football
Bet on football goalscorer markets in a different way to first/last scorer betting markets, value can still be found with an anytime scorer betting strategy in major football matches.
The best value in the anytime goalscorer market can be found with either midfielders or defenders, top strikers such as Robin Van Persie are almost always priced at very unattractive odds in this market.
However, it is always worth checking if you fancy an upset or both teams to score in a particular game, for example last season the odds on Nikica Jelavic to score anytime for Everton were nearly always odds-on due to the strikers form. When Everton played away against Manchester Utd however, the bookies clearly didn’t fancy Everton’s chances to score and Jelavic’s anytime price was hiked to around 2/1 in most places, the game finished 4-4 and Jelavic scored twice, so in certain cases value can be found with top strikers and these bets should always be snapped up. The beauty of an anytime goalscorer bet is that you can cash in regardless of the result, even if it’s only a consolation goal, or for that matter a consolation bet.
As stated earlier the real value in this market is found with midfielders and defenders, the best strategy is to look at players who take free kicks and/or penalties, players such as Xabi Alonso for Spain or Leighton Baines for Everton. Although you may be able to get odds of around 16/1 for first/last goalscorer bets, you can still find healthy odds of around 5/1 for an anytime scorer bet, still profitable odds and vastly increasing your chances of success.
The same betting strategy should be used if you fancy a defender to score, central defenders such as Joleon Lescott have a great scoring rate with headers from set pieces and although first goalscorer may be priced at an attractive 25/1 you can usually get great value odds of around 10/1 or more in the anytime market.
The important thing to do is to first of all think about how you believe the match you are betting on will play out, for example will there be many goals? Will a certain team win the majority of free kicks and corners? Does one of the teams have a poor record of defending set pieces? These are the key football betting methods that should be considered in order to increase your chances of success, and then of course check the odds to see if you can find the value you want. Good luck for the new season!
