ITV Racing Tips for Sunday 5th July from Haydock and Sandown
Superstar Enable is back on our TV screens this weekend and the Coral-Eclipse features in our ITV Racing tips for Sunday.
There are seven races on TV and Henry has picked out his best bet from each race including a NAP and NB.

1.50 Sandown
The opener on ITV today is the 1:50 Sandown and it is the coral Charge over 5f. Lazuli heads the market at 5/2 for Godolphin following a convincing win over C+D last time out.
The horse I like is LIBERTY BEACH 7/2 NB for the John Quinn. She was very good over Course and Distance here last year and ran a mighty race behind Battaash at Royal Ascot. He was arguably the 2nd best horse in that race behind Battaash and that proven Group 1 form is easily the best piece of form on offer here. I don’t think she’s finished improving.
2.05 Haydock
The 2.05 race from Haydock is the bet365 handicap over 1m6f and it will be quite a slog on the soft ground. Favorite Moon heads the market for the Haggas team and has potential moving up in trip.
The horse I like is SUBJECTIVIST 5/1 NAP for Mark Johnston. Johnston has a stunning record in this race and he has a lively contender here. Subjectivist ran a mighty race at Royal Ascot finishing third despite getting no cover racing wide throughout. He has more to come over these staying trips and is a great bet here.
2.25 Sandown
The next race from Sandown is the Coral Henry II Stakes which is a Group 3 over 2m. I think CROSS COUNTER 2/1 will be tough to beat here. He came third in the Gold cup, has proven group 1 form and at these weights back down to Group 3 company I think he’ll be too classy for this lot.
2.40 Haydock
The 2.40 race is the bet365 Lancashire Oaks over 1m4f for the fillies and mares. Ralph Beckett holds a strong hand here with the front two in the market but I am happy to chance CABALETTA 7/2 here for the Roger Varian team. Cabaletta won first time out on heavy ground which bodes well for this test round Haydock and she did beat Frankly Darling there. She then finishes second on her latest start staying on suggesting this step up in trip will suit.
3.00 Sandown
Next up is the 3pm race from Sandown which is the Coral Challenge over the 1m distance. Royal Hunt cup 1,2 reunite here with first home Dark Vision and second home Montatham heading the market.
I fancy MONTATHAM 7/2 to reverse the form here as he is less exposed and the Haggas team are flying. Montatham will have no problems with this ground and Crowley has chosen him here over Mutasaamy here and he very rarely gets it wrong.
3.15 Haydock
The 3.15 race is the tough Old Newton Cup handicap over 1m4f. I like the first reserve here PALAVECINO 16/1 EW who has progressed well over his last few wins. He completed a hat-trick last time out in the AW but he has won on the turf in the past. I still think there is more to come from him and if he could sneak in at the bottom of the weights he is a lively player here.
I’m happy to add a second here and that is DEJA 8/1 EW. Deja ran a cracking race finishing second in a handicap at Royal Ascot and there has to be more to come for Deja as he is very lightly raced and could improve for that last run. He has a great e/w chance here too.
3.35 Sandown
The big race of the day comes up at 3:35 and it’s the Group 1 Coral-Eclipse. It is an intriguing renewal with Enable returning here, Coronation Cup winner Ghaiyyath running and Japan who will come on significantly for his reappearance. Ghaiyyath needs his own way in front and runs his best races after a break so I am happy to oppose him here. Japan is the main danger in my eyes but I think he will be better towards the end of the season and will be a great bet in the Arc.
Lord North wasn’t declared for the race sadly so, therefore, I can’t see past ENABLE 5/4 making a winning return here. I don’t think the other market principles will be at their best so I think Enable who won this last year will win again even if she’s only 80% fit. We all know how good she is and she has been working well at home so the 6-year-old can win another Group 1 here.
