Everton have taken the transfer window by storm so far this summer with over £95 million spent already, but will Everton finish higher than Liverpool in the Premier League next season?
The transfer window has only been open for a few days but Everton have already made their intentions clear. The signings of Jordan Pickford (£30 million), Michael Keane (£30 million), Davy Klassen (£27.6 million), Henry Onyekuru (£7 million) and Sandro Ramirez (£5.2 million) are a real statement of intent from the Merseyside club and their city rivals Liverpool will certainly be looking over their shoulder at the business being done at Goodison Park.

One of the most popular season match bets at the moment is Everton vs Liverpool – who will finish higher? Last season Liverpool secured a Champions League place and finished 15 points and three places above Everton but so far the red side of the city have only made one signing, that of former Chelsea man Mohamed Salah for £34 million from Roma. So, can Everton close the gap and finish above Liverpool in the 2017/18 Premier League season?
One of the big clues to this question will be the future of Romelu Lukaku. It looks almost a certainty that he will leave Everton and Chelsea are currently favourites for his signature (8/15 with Betfair) so who will Everton bring in to replace the 26 goal striker. He has scored 53 goals in 110 Premier League matches and it looks almost impossible for Everton to bring in a player with that strike rate to replace Lukaku. But if they can keep hold of the Belgian then they will be confident of finishing above Liverpool next season. In the transfer rumour mill the likes of Oliver Giroud, Josh King and Moussa Dembele have been linked with Everton but it remains to be seen if they look further afield for a new striker.
Liverpool are yet to play their full hand in the transfer window and with the added burden of Champions League football next season they need to improve their squad. Jurgen Klopp is sure to do so and he will be keen to bring in a proven striker to take the goalscoring burden from his creative players such as Coutinho, Mane and Lallana. Liverpool are firm favourites to finish above Everton in the odds but the next eight weeks of transfer activity on both sides of Stanley Park will go a long way to dictating who has the best chance of finishing higher.
The current odds for Everton to finish above Liverpool next season are 9/2 at bet365. The odds for Liverpool to finish about Everton are 1/7 with the same firm. Liverpool are still strong favourites in this matched bet market and understandably so, but don’t rule out more Everton signings and seeing those odds of 9/2 get shorter before the new Premier League season starts on August 12th.
