Austria vs Republic of Ireland predictions and betting tips for this week’s World Cup 2018 qualifying match on Saturday 12^th November.

 

Republic of Ireland will look to continue their unbeaten start in the World Cup Qualifiers when they travel to Austria on Saturday. Here are some tips and predictions for Ireland’s trip to Vienna.

 

Ireland currently sit joint-top of Group D following wins over Georgia and Moldovia and a score-draw against Serbia. Following their elimination from the European Cup against France, Republic of Ireland have gone unbeaten in four games, scoring an impressive 10 goals in the process. Ireland are not afraid to attack in numbers and get on the scoresheet, although this does sometimes leave them exposed at the back – emphasised by the 2-2 draw against Serbia in September. O’Neill’s side rarely get humiliated in matches, in 14 games they have lost four matches, with only one of those being more than a one goal deficit, therefore I think this will end up being a close encounter between the two sides.

 

Meanwhile, Austria sit in fourth position after their three games and will be looking for three points to ease any qualification uncertainty. The Austrians lost to Serbia and drew 0-0 against Wales and seemingly can’t put their nightmare of a European Cup behind them after they failed to qualify for the knock-out stages. They possess undoubted quality in the side with David Alaba, Marko Arnautovic and proven goalscorer Marc Janko, however they don’t seem to be living up to expectations for Austria. Manager Marcel Koller will need these players to step-up if he wants to qualify for the World Cup in 2018.

Like I mentioned, I feel this is going to be a close encounter between both sides, therefore I am going for BTTS and Over 2.5 goals for my first Austria vs Republic of Ireland betting tip. James McCarthy, Cyrus Christie, Steven Quinn and Stephen Ward are injured, therefore will all miss the trip to Vienna. Furthermore, Shane Long is not in the 28-man squad, so he won’t feature either.
