The top two teams in the World Cup 2018 European qualifying group A face each other on Friday night when France entertain Sweden and here are two tips for the big game.

 

France are unbeaten in the group so far and are showing why they are favourites to top this group with their recent performances. Since their disappointing stalemate against Belarus on match day one they have beaten Bulgaria and Holland quite comfortably and are sitting pretty at the top of the group. Sweden have coped quite well without their hero Zlatan Ibrahimovic after he retired from international football in the summer and are also unbeaten in the group. They drew 1-1 away in Holland in their first game of the group and have followed that up with back to back wins against Luxembourg and Bulgaria. This has left them second in the group and it has given them a strong platform to try and qualify from with nearly a third of the matches played. Without Zlatan they are more of a team and look defensively solid and it will be tough for the French to break them down and the average age of the squad has dropped drastically in recent years so it could be promising times for the Swedish fans.

France have recalled Instagram legend Patrice Evra to the squad after he missed the last two qualifiers.  There are eight Premier League players who were called up by Didier Deschamps including Oliver Giroud and Dimitri Payet who will both be looking to continue their club form with their country. As for the Sweden squad, they only have the one football league representative in their squad and that is promising Leeds United defender Pontus Jansson and other notable Swedish players include John Guidetti who was once of Manchester City and Ola Toivonen who had a brief spell at Sunderland.
