World Cup 2014 Betting Tips for Group C

Columbia Falcao.JPG

On paper World Cup Group C might not be the most appealing group to come out of the draw, as other groups have the likes of last World Cup finalists Spain and Holland drawn together.

But Group C is one of the most open groups of them all. With Colombia, Ivory Coast, Japan and Greece making up the group, it’s anyone’s guess as to who will make it through to the knockout phase.

This group is wide open and when looking for our World Cup betting tips from Group C it is fair to say Columbia are an attractive price to win the group at odds of 5/6 (Sky Bet), but who will follow them into the latter stages of the competition in Brazil?

Colombia

With the fire power of Radamel Falcao, James Martinez and James Rodriguez they are the favourites to finish top of the group and even dark horses to go on to win the tournament. The Colombians have a big advantage over others in the group as the extreme heat and humidity won’t be a major concern as it will be for the Greek and the Japanese. Manager Jose Peckerman plays an attacking brand of football by using attacking formations and likes to push his full backs forward at every opportunity. Although Peckerman is attack minded he has created a water tight back four that only conceded 13 goals in qualifying, less than any other team in South America. Colombia will be a nation that will want to be avoided for most as they have the potential to cause big upsets.

Ivory Coast

The Elephants will be extremely happy to be drawn in this group as their last two visits saw them drawn in the group of death. In 2006 they understandably failed to get out of their group which consisted of Argentina and the Netherlands. In 2010 they suffered the same feat as they were drawn in the same group as Brazil and Portugal. This year however they will see this as being their best opportunity to venture into the unknown of the World Cup knockout stages. The Ivoirians go to Brazil full of confidence as they finished unbeaten in their qualifying campaign.  It’s a star studded outfit full of Premier League stars past and present with the likes of Yaya Toure, Didier Drogba, Cheick Tiote and Wilfried Bony all likely to be representing the African nation at World Cup 2014.

Japan

The Japanese will also see themselves as favourites to qualify from the group. They showed their impressive spirit and talent in the Confederations Cup last summer. Although they lost all their games and finished bottom of the group, they came away with more admirers than critics. The Japanese will have strong support come the summer as an estimated 1.5million Japanese live in Brazil. With the likes of Manchester United’s Shinji Kagawa and recent AC Milan acquisition Keisuke Honda Japan have undeniable talent throughout their squad. Under manger Alberto Zaccheroni the Japanese have adopted the Italian method of being defensively strong while having creative flair.

Greece

The European representatives in Group C are not expected to make it out of the group but as we are all too well aware you can never write off the Greek. The Greek had an impressive route to Brazil only losing once in their qualifying group and only conceded four goals in the process.  It’s not a nation full off International superstars but the work rate and the passion of the players is phenomenal. The heat will be a factor as it will be for all the European nations. Greece will be playing one of their games in Natal where humidity levels can reach up to 97%. The quicker the players can adapt to the conditions the better chance they will have off progressing.
