World Cup Betting Tips and Predictions for Group D

Five months is all that separates the thirty two qualified nations from preparing to arrive in Brazil for the World Cup this year and today we take a look at some World Cup tips for Group D.

England, Uruguay, Italy and Costa Rica will all go face to face in group D for two places up for grabs in the Round of 16 and this looks the most difficult group to find some winning World Cup predictions from.

It’s not a good draw for our home nation with expectations to qualify from the group stages made difficult to achieve with the likes of Luis Suarez, Edison Cavani, Mario Balotelli and Andrea Pirlo all looking to cut short the Three Lions’ hopes for their respected nations.

However anything is possible; as always, back in the 2010 World Cup Switzerland beat Spain in the group stage before the Spaniards went on to win the competition as well as a certain French manager who it was subject for picking his team on favoured star signs. This didn’t provide the success Raymond Domenech was after however, he did stay in the job for six years spanning from 2004-2010 which I found most surprising.

It won’t be miracles the Three Lions are after; they have just got to play how they do at Wembley. Often at international competitions we see a completely different England side on home turf in comparison to the performances shown at World Cups in recent years.

As for the other teams Costa Rica have already been written off from qualifying from the group which is understandable given the quality of teams presented to the South American’s but they do have Premier League players in the ranks. Fulham player Bryan Ruiz and Bryan Oviedo from Everton play for the Costa Rican national team.

The Italians will be hoping to top the group and I believe they can do that if they use their experience from Andrea Pirlo, Gianluigi Buffon and Danielle De Rossi to win at World Cups combined with younger talents such as Mario Balotelli and Stephan El Shaarawy. England incidentally played Italy at Euro 2012 and as always the Three Lions were knocked out on penalties.

Uruguay will challenge to get through the group perhaps even topping it if Luis Suarez in particular is still on top form. However I do think it’s a three horse race to get into the round of 16. Each team has 3 games to win playing each team in the group once, so any mistakes made can’t really be corrected later on in the group especially with a group this strong.

England will do extremely well to get through this group, Uruguay and Italy are ideally teams you would like to face later in the competition with hopefully some momentum of winning behind the nation however that’s not the case, but have teams of this calibre in the group can only make the competition more exciting for everyone to watch.

I can’t see Costa Rica troubling anyone but they could be awkward customers just like New Zealand who drew all their games in the group in South Africa.

It’s very difficult to say who will go through but I would certainly say it will be a combination of England, Uruguay and Italy. My World Cup betting tip for the group has Italy to win the group and Uruguay to finish second, with England just missing out and Costa Rica coming last.
