Russia are expected to qualify for the last 16 along with Belgium but there is no value in backing an underwhelming Russian outfit, especially with South Korea in town.

They have a favourable draw, a brilliant set of travelling fixtures with all three matches within a coach journey of their base, and a location the south-east of Brazil where the climate it much more suited to European side.

Given that we expect Belgium to pick up maximum points the second place looks between Russia and South Korea and there is good reason to oppose Capello’s Russia. Their attacking options are limited and a stagnant midfield wills struggle against pace and quick movement, something both Belgium and South Korea have in abundance in the central areas.

Russia crashed out of Euro 2012 despite an easy draw and the same fate could greet them here, a loss to South Korea in their first match coupled with a defeat to Belgium will likely see them eliminated before the final match with Algeria so a World Cup bet prediction for them to finish bottom at a whopping 15/2 is not to be missed.

South Korea finished third at the 2012 Olympics and their midfielders will be used to playing European style football given most of them play domestically in England or Germany. Their pace in attack will trouble Russia’s pedestrian midfield and they can do the damage in their very first match before they meet Portugal and Germany.

Algeria make up the group but they will be an improved outfit from that that held England to a 0-0 draw at the last World Cup. Their Valencia star Feghouli is capable of providing the attacking threat to at least get Algeria on the scoresheet and despite being strong favourites in the latest 2014 World Cup betting odds to finish bottom of Group H, could surprise a few people.
