Next summer’s World Cup in Brazil will suit the South American sided perfectly, but which nation has the best chance of winning the World Cup on their own continent?

There are several strong candidates from South America that will be competing for the World Cup in 2014. They will all fancy their chances as history shows only South American teams have won World Cups when hosted in the continent and Brazil are clear favourites in the latest World Cup odds.

Keep checking back to thatsagoal.com for the latest World Cup betting tips and predictions ad we continue our build up to next summers tournament.

Argentina (11/2 Sportingbet) go into the World Cup having won the South American qualifying group with a total of 32 points. This is a big difference compared to the last time they qualified for 2010 in South Africa under Diego Maradonna where they scraped through to qualify in fourth thanks to a late winner in the final game against Uruguay.

This time around they have looked good in qualification, with a much more gelled team under the management of Alejandro Sabella. He comes without the obvious issues and dramatics that Maradona came with and has shown to be an astute manager. Although they did not have to face Brazil in qualifying, it was an impressive campaign that has rightly put Argentina as one of the bookies favourites to win in Brazil 2014.

Argentina have an endless amount of attacking talent to choose from, this includes Messi, Aguero, Lavezzi, Higuain, Lavezzi, Palacio, Di Maria and Lamela and that reason alone makes them a great prospect for a World Cup betting tip. This gives a selection headache that most countries could only dream of and going forward their options are unrivalled. Defensively they will rely on fierce competitor Javier Mascherano to hassle and hunt down opponents whilst hoping that the likes of Zabaleta, Collocini and Garay give them a solid defensive platform for the attacking players to flourish.

Hosts Brazil are also one of the favourites to be victorious in World Cup 2014. They will fancy their chances after an impressive showing in the Confederations Cup where they beat reigning World Cup victors Spain comfortably in the final. If Neymar and Fred can keep up their form they will be hard to stop, though their defence is questionable with offensive minded players such as Dani Alves, Marcelo and David Luiz playing a key role. If they can remain disciplined Brazil will challenge too.

Other South American hopes include Columbia, who impressively came second in qualifying and possess one of the most dangerous strikers in the world, Falcao. Uruguay will also be expected to put up a good showing, they have a very potent attack with Suarez and Cavani, however the lack of real quality throughout the rest of the team is a concern and could ultimately see them fall short.

Columbia are worth a shot at 33/1, I wrote about these underdogs in more detail here https://thatsagoal.com/betting-tips/world-cup-2014-betting-tip-columbia-best-outside-chance. I feel the best hope South American hope however come with Argentina who are best odds 11/2..
