Kelso: 12:33 Fleet Day Oot Handicap Chase 2m7f96y
Breaking The Ice has officially improved 28lb since last May, but has enjoyed an uncontested lead when winning his last two starts, over course and distance, and may be vulnerable this time. The suggestion is Who’s In the Box, who remains 9lb higher in the weights than winning the Lincolnshire National at Market Rasen last December, but subsequently ran well in defeat off similar marks last season. He should strip fitter for his reappearance at Carlisle in late October.
Selection: Who’s In The Box (13/2 with William Hill)
Kelso: 1:03 Lilburn Estate Scottish Borders National Handicap Chase 4m90y
Innisfree Lad has never won over this far, but the way he ran over 3 miles 1 furlong at Wincanton last month strongly suggested he was in need of a much stiffer test of stamina. He certainly has that here and, with the assistance of Brian Hughes, in first-time cheekpieces, he could go well at rewarding odds.
Selection: Innisfree Lad (14/1 with William Hill)
Huntingdon: 1:52 Fitzdares Peterborough Chase 2m4f
First Flow probably needs softer ground to be seen to best effect, so it’s hard to see far beyond Allmankind, who gamely made all to win the Old Roan Chase at Aintree in late October. He has been beaten just once over fences, in the Arkle Challenge Trophy at the Cheltenham Festival last March and, still only a 5-year-old, has plenty of scope for further improvement.
Selection: Allmankind (6/5 with BetVictor)
Huntingdon: 3:27 Fitzdares Wishes Everyone A Merry Christmas Handicap Chase 2m7f129y
Winning pointer Aki Boumaye was beaten favourite on his debut over regulation fences at Worcester earlier this month, but should improve for that run, his first since March, and appreciate stepping up in distance. A 2lb rise in the weights doesn’t exactly help his cause, but it’s still early days in his chasing career and he can reasonably be expected to rate much higher in future.
Selection: Aki Boumaye (5/2 with William Hill)
