Glorious Goodwood Day 5 Tips & ITV Tips from Newmarket

The final day of Glorious Goodwood 2021 features the Stewards’ Cup, one of the most puzzling handicap races of the season, and there is also a couple of races from Newmarket also on the Saturday ITV Racing.

1:20 Goodwood

The opener on ITV is a tricky 7f handicap for the 3 year-olds.

My selection here is DARK SHIFT EW (15/2). He won a Novice Stakes well over at Nottingham before finishing a beaten favourite on handicap debut at York. I think the ground was too quick there for this son of Dark Angel and he was just given too much to do at Ascot last time out. He was doing all his best work late that day and I think he can come with a late burst here and at least run into a places. He will prove to be better than his current handicap mark in my opinion.

 

1:55 Goodwood

The 1:55 race is a 6f sprint race, the consolation race for those unfortunate to miss out on the Stewards Cup ballot.

The one I like here is BOUNDLESS POWER EW (16/1). He’s been in really good form this season for Michael Appleby and has been a real stable star. He ran a solid race last time out finishing 5th staying on well but never close enough to really challenge. I think this step back up to 6f is the right move for him and he remains off the same mark of 89 which I believe he can certainly still be competitive off.

 

2:10 Newmarket

The 2:10 race from Newmarket is a fillies nursery handicap over the 6f trip.

The one for me here is SYMPHONY PERFECT (5/1). The Richard Hannon team are in fine fettle and the 2 year-olds have been running really well this week. She was second last time out in the competitive Super Sprint at Newbury two weeks ago and this opening mark of 86 is well within her reach.

 

2:30 Goodwood

The Summer Handicap is next up over at Goodwood and it’s another wide-open betting heat for punters. This time over the 1m6f trip.

I’ll take a chance on RHYTHMIC INTENT EW (16/1) here. I think there will be a strong pace on here that will suit him well. He has a nice draw in stall 6 where he will be able to take up a nice position just off the pace. The forecast rain will be in his favour and his second last time out at Sandown gave me the impression he’s capable of a bold show under ideal conditions.

 

2:45 Newmarket

The second and final race from Newmarket on ITV is a race for fillies and mares over the 1m4f trip. 10 are set to go to post for this listed affair.

My selection here is SAYYIDA NB (7/2) for the Charlie Appleby team. She looked a useful prospect when winning over this course and distance last time out on just her fourth career start. I expect she’ll continue to improve with each outing and she’s bred to be a very good horse. The Appleby team continue in flying form and always thrive here with runners at Newmarket. Hopefully she can do the business for us here.

 

3:05 Goodwood

It’s Group 2 action up next as we have the Lillie Langtry Stakes, a Group 2 for fillies and mares over 1m6f.

I like WONDERFUL TONIGHT (4/5) here. I think she is a superstar and if the forecast is right I see no way how she gets beat here. She was really impressive when winning at Royal Ascot last time out winning the Group 2 Hardwicke Stakes and she was entitled to come on for that effort. She’s a short price today but it may be worth backing her for the Arc before this as she’ll likely shorten for that race if she wins today.

 

3:40 Goodwood

The finale on what has been a great week is the always competitive Unibet Stewards Cup, a 6f handicap sprint which I’m sure plenty of the runners will have been laid out for.

The one for me is FRESH NAP (7/1). James Fanshawe continues to produce top quality sprinters and Fresh is a sprinter on the up. He stayed on well to get up at Ascot two starts back before running a cracker in the Wokingham finishing an unlucky second. He’s only up 3lb for that effort and I expect this race to suit his hold up style well. He’ll be staying on strongly again and hopefully Kieran Shoemark can time that lasts burst to perfection. His confidence will be sky high after victory on Lady Bowthorpe on Thursday.
