Horse Racing Tips: Best Bets for Southwell & Ayr on Sunday

Thatsagoal Racing Tips

The going at Ayr is already heavy, so the seaside course could probably do without much more rain over the weekend.

However, we’ve run a rule over both meetings and come up with four value-for-money selections, weather permitting.

Southwell: 2:10 Coral Proud To Support British Racing Handicap 7f

Keep Hoping lacks experience on Tapeta, but has run well on her last two starts on Polytrack, including over 7 furlongs at Kempton on her penultimate outing. The daughter of top-class sprinter Profitable didn’t appear to be crying out for a drop back in distance when third over a mile last time, but it’s still early days for her and she remains open to further improvement.

Selection: Keep Hoping (6/1 with William Hill)

Southwell: 3:10 Betway Handicap 6f

Hello Me is on a career-high mark, but is 3-3 on Tapeta and was value for more than the winning margin when successful, for the third time in his last five starts, at Newcastle last month. A 5lb rise in the weights for that comfortable success looks entirely fair, especially as the form has worked out well, and he looks a fair bet to go in again.

Selection: Hello Me (5/2 with William Hill)

Ayr: 2:30 Racing TV Handicap Chase 2m110y

A moderate contest in which few, if any, can be completely discounted. Recent winning form is at a premium, but Barnay was only headed in the final strides when runner-up at Sedgefield two weeks ago and may be able to defy a 4lb rise in the weights. He’s hardly prolific, but remains 1lb lower than when winning over hurdles at Carlisle last February, so at least looks realistically handicapped.

Selection: Barnay (9/4 with William Hill)

Ayr: 3:00 Every Race Live On Racing TV Novices’ Handicap Hurdle 2m

Irish raider Kinnegad Lad ran well enough in a competitive handicap hurdle at Limerick in May to warrant consideration, but hasn’t been seen in public since. Consequently, preference on this occasion is for Universal Folly, who won at Carlisle in October and wasn’t beaten far off a 4lb lower mark at Musselburgh last month. He’s only 1-13 under Rules, but has conditions to suit.

Selection: Universal Folly (5/2 with William Hill)
