Horse Racing Tips for Friday 7th October at Newmarket and Chepstow

Newmarket racecourse

There is a bumper ITV racing schedule on Friday but we are focusing our attention on the Chepstow and Newmarket cards which are being shown live on the channel.

That is six races to get through and National Hunt racing is back as we approach the season proper so Henry has looked through the live Chepstow races and picked his best bets from each. The flat season is coming to an end with Champions Dat at Ascot looming next weekend but first, it is the Dewhurst meeting at Newmarket with the feature race being the Fillies’ Mile at 3.35pm.

1:35 Chepstow

The 1:35 from Chepstow sees the return of the NH to ITV. It’s a Veterans Chase over 3m.

I like SOME CHAOS (10/3) NAP here. He won this race last year off a 2lb higher mark and he always seems to run best when fresh so seasonal debut is no concern. He was pulled up multiple times last season after that victory but then races were a much higher level than this. He returned to veterans company with two placed efforts after pulling up three times and i think this is his company which sees him run to best effect. We know he operates at Chepstow and he’ll do for me.

1:50 Newmarket

The 1:50 from Newmarket is a trappy Group 3 for 2 year-olds over the 5f trip.

I’ll chance LADY HAMANA (20/1) EW at a price here. Karl Burke has had a fine campaign with his 2 year-olds this season and I think his horse here is overpriced. She improved from her debut third to win a poor enough race on her second start. Burke then sent her to the Flying Childers which is a decent Group 2 contest. That shows Burke must think she’s a decent filly as he would have had a few to chose from. She wasn’t disgraced in 5th that day and she wasn’t far behind the 13/8 fav for this who was 4th.  In a race with so many unknowns, I’ll chance her at a price.

2:10 Chepstow

The 2:10 is a the Persian War Novices Hurdle, a Grade 2 contest over 2m4f.

It’s PRESENTANDCOUNTING (3/1) NB for me who’s on a roll at the moment. He’s the highest rated in the field winning four from his last five starts. He’s been running over the summer so he’ll be fitter than most. This is arguably his number one target which can’t be said for a lot of the opposition. The quick ground for this time of year is a positive based on his summer form and I think he’ll go close.

2:25 Newmarket

The Oh So Sharp Stakes is up next, a Group 3 for 2 year-old fillies over 7f.

My selection is RAGE OF BAMBY (7/2). A winner on her first two career starts for Eve Houghton, she then went to the Rockfel next time out and ran a cracker to finish third. That is the strongest form in the book and I think she can improve again. She sets a high standard and I still think there’s some value in her current price.

3:00 Newmarket

The 3:00 is a Group 2 over 6f called the Challenge Stakes.

I like POGO (9/4) here. Favourite Sacred isn’t the most consistent sort and she can be taken on at the prices. Pogo is solid and 7f at Newmarket seems perfect. His run last time out running Kinross to a length reads well based on Kinross’ Group 1 win on Sunday. William Buick is an encouraging jockey booking and I think he’ll go very close at least.

3:35 Newmarket

The Group 1 Fillies Mile is the feature on the day it comes up at 3:35.

It’s hard to see COMMISSIONING (8/15) beat here. She was a good winner for the column last time out where she improved for her debut win to again winning going away. Shes learning on the job and she’s only going to get better.

She’s not a working man’s price and I do think BRIGHT DIAMOND (7/1) is comfortably the second-best filly in the line-up so I’d recommend a forecast bet here.
