Horse Racing Tips: Four Fancies at Uttoxeter & Exeter on Sunday
Single-figure fields are the order of the day at both meetings on Sunday, but we’ve cast an eye over the more competitive races in search of value.
Making excuses for beaten horses can be an expensive business, but we’ve unearthed a few who may have better chances than their odds imply.

Uttoxeter: 12:40 Remembering A True Gentleman, Howard Bradshaw Handicap Chase 2m4f
Winning pointer Pens Man is 2-3 over regulation fences, including over course and distance, but ran dismally at Exeter last time, so may be best watched for the time being. Under the circumstances, it may be worth chancing Guetapan Collonges, who started favourite on his chasing debut last month, but reportedly found the flat, sharp track at Stratford against him. Ideally, a drop of rain would do him no harm, but it’ll be interesting to see how he goes on a fairly galloping track.
Selection: Guetapan Collonges (4/1 with William Hill)
Uttoxeter: 1:10 National Hunt Racing Enthusiasts Club Handicap Hurdle 2m7f70y
Notwithstanding the fact that he lost two shoes in the process, Taste The Fear ran as though in need of the race, on his first start since July, at Worcester last month and is just 4lb higher in the weights than when winning a better race at Market Rasen on his penultimate start. He beat subsequent winner Every Breakin Wave in a novices’ hurdle over course and distance, on good going, last June, so has an obvious chance if anywhere near his best.
Selection: Taste The Fear (4/1 with William Hill)
Exeter: 2:30 MansionBet Best Odds Guaranteed Handicap Chase 3m54y
Midnight Midge has run poorly, more than once, on soft going but, with the weather in South West England set fair for the rest of the week, he should have conditions to his liking. He was hindered by a slipping saddle when beaten on his reappearance at Wincanton just over two weeks ago, but a 1lb rise is the weights is neither here nor there and he can make amends. Dropping back in trip should do him no harm.
Selection: Midnight Midge (3/1 with William Hill)
Exeter: 3:30 Download The MansionBet App Handicap Hurdle 2m5f135y
Local trainer Jane Williams has found the key to In Rem, if his winning debut for the yard at Ffos Las last month is anything to go by, and the lightly-raced 6-year-old can follow up. Stepped up to 3 miles at the West Wales course, for the first time in his stop-start career, the Kapgarde gelding went clear in the closing stages to win with plenty in hand. An 8lb rise in the weights demands more, but he can reasonably be expected to improve on what is just his fifth start over hurdles.
Selection: In Rem (4/1 with William Hill)
