Horse Racing Tips: Four Picks for Thursday’s Meetings

Thatsagoal Racing Tips

Soft or heavy going is the order of the day for all three Jump meetings on Thursday, but they look competitive enough, as does the Flat card from Chelmsford.

We’ve scoured the form book in search of value and unearthed four selections that we think will go well.

Sandown: 2:20 Weatherbys Cheltenham Festival Betting Guide Jane Seymour Mares’ Novices’ Hurdle 2m4f

The unbeaten Love Envoi has 5lb to find with Nina The Terrier, according to the official handicapper, but clearly has stamina in abundance; she may be progressive enough to win this, despite disadvantageous terms. With unsettled weather set to continue, this may well turn into a war of attrition, which would play to her strengths.

Selection: Love Envoi (7/4 with William Hill)

Fontwell: 2:37 Virgin Bet Handicap Chase 2m5f135y

Lavorante remains a maiden over hurdles, but appeared to improve when stepped up in distance at Plumpton last month and may be able to make a winning debut over fences. He finished second to the unbeaten Jonbon in his sole point-to-point start as a 4-year-old, so must have a decent chance in a race that won’t take much winning.

Selection: Lavorante (4/1 with William Hill)

Leicester: 2:10 Join RacingTV Now Handicap Chase 2m6f151y

Most of these are infrequent winners, but Eclair Mag drops in class and distance and may be able to take advantage. Richard Bandey’s 8-year-old won a a better race over 3 miles, on heavy going, at Market Rasen just over a year ago, off a handicap mark just 1lb higher, so while he doesn’t inspire maximum confidence he definitely has a chance.

Selection: Eclair Mag (6/1 with William Hill)

Chelmsford 8:30 Ministry Of Sound Disco 20th August Handicap 1m2f

Enfranchise has yet to run at Chelmsford, but has improved for the step up to a mile and a quarter at Lingfiled the last twice and, despite top weight, still looks well handicapped. She proved no match for Lower Street in a 0-100 contest two starts ago, but won comfortably over the same course and distance six days later; a 3lb rise in the weights for that success looks more than fair.

Selection: Enfranchise (3/1 with William Hill)
