Horse Racing Tips: Four Value Picks at Carlisle & Southwell on Sunday
Just the two meetings on Sunday, but plenty of entries at both Carlisle and Southwell.
We think we’ve found a few opportunities to swell the coffers in plenty of time for the festive season.

Carlisle 1:40 Secret Garden Restaurant Pooley Bridge Handicap Chase 2m5f
Whoshotthesheriff has run well on all three starts on this course, winning a graduation chase, over 2 miles on heavy going, here last season. He was reportedly never travelling when well beaten at Wetherby in late October, but had won, in this grade, over the same course and distance on his reappearance two weeks earlier. He still looks fairly handicapped, especially with Joe Williamson taking off 5lb, and may have benefited from a short break.
Selection: Whoshotthesheriff (5/1 with William Hill)
Carlisle: 2:10 Pertemps Network Handicap Hurdle 3m1f
The progressive Bass Rock is weighted to confirm his recent superiority over both Teescomponentslad and Flight Deck and can make it two wins from three starts this season. Sandy Thomson’s 5-year-old has yet to win over this far, but only weakened in the final hundred yards or so when third over an extended 3 miles at Haydock last month. He has been raised 2lb for that effort, but drops in class and has winning form on soft going.
Selection: Bass Rock (7/2 with William Hill)
Southwell 2:25 starsports.bet Mares’ Handicap Hurdle 2m
Irish import Laura Bullion has run well on both starts for Olly Murphy and may be ready to open her account on British soil in first-time cheekpieces. Her Plumpton conqueror, Royaume Uni, was far fron digraced when third, off a 7lb higher mark, in a competitive 0-140 contest at Cheltenham on Friday, to give her form some substance. The return to slower underfoot conditions may also help her cause.
Selection: Laura Bullion (5/1 with William Hill)
Southwell 3:25 Star Sports Bet Pipped?! Offer Conditional Jockeys’ Handicap Hurdle 2m4f88y
Recent winning form is in short supply, so perhaps Foillan, who has been raised 7lb for winning readily at Hexham last month, on his first attempt over 2 miles 4 furlongs, can follow up. He takes a slight rise in class, but remains open to improvement after just four starts over obstacles and faces largely exposed opposition.
Selection: Foillan (13/8 with William Hill)
