Horse Racing Tips: Three Best Bets for Ayr on Wednesday 19th May

Ayr racing tips

In the wake of the Chester May Meeting and the York Dante Festival, the best of the midweek action this week takes place at Ayr on Wednesday.

The quality of the action dips a little, when compared with recent weeks, but it’s still competitive enough to whet the appetite.

Swedish billionairess Kirsten Rausing holds a strong hand, with both A La Voile and Arriviste towards the head of the market. Indeed, the pair were separated by just a neck when fourth and fifth in the Nottinghamshire Oaks Stakes last month, where they finished just behind Black Lotus. Blakc Lotus is officially the highest rated of the trio and may well confirm the Nottingham form, but has yet to win at this level and may be one to take on at the odds on offer. Bharani Star appears to need further than a mile and a quarter and Pholas has yet to win beyond a mile, so it may be worth chancing Kaleidoscopic. The handicap in which he finished second at Pontefract last month has worked out extraordinarly well, with each of the other four runners winning next time out.

Selection: Kaleidoscopic (12/1 with William Hill)

Recent Catterick winner Zumurud escapes a penalty and remains well handicapped on his earlier form. He faces entirely different underfoot conditions this time, but won a couple of times, albeit over 5 and 6 furlongs, on the prevailing good to firm going earlier in his career, so remains one to consider. So, too, does Global Humour, who steps up in class and distance under a 5lb penalty for winning at Hamilton last week, for all that he has done most of his winning on all-weather surfaces. Caballero is on a losing run stretching back to his 2-year-old days, which is an obvious worry but, after two narrow defeats over course and distance this season, may be able to make a belated return to the winners’ enclosure.

Selection: Caballero (10/3 with William Hill)

Secret Handsheikh and Jacattack both came unstuck in their respective all-weather hat-trick attempts in March and have been absent since. The former, in particular, has winning form over the minimum trip on fast turf, but the fact that he was reportedly unsuited by the fast early pace when last of eight, over 6 furlongs, on his most recent start at Lingfield tempers optimism for a revival. Ready Freddie Go wasn’t beaten far at all in a similar race on his reappearance at Nottingham last month and showed the benefit of that run when winning another at Thirsk 18 days ago. A 5lb rise in the weights for that success seems fair enough and he can follow up.

Selection: Ready Freddie Go (11/4 with William Hill)
