1:50 Ascot

The 1:50 race at Ascot is a Grade 2 Novice Chase over the 3m trip.

My selection here is DOES HE KNOW (5/2). A winner of his first two chase starts, he then ran well again last time out when second behind progressive stayer Threeunderthrufive at Cheltenham. He’s likely to go forward under David Bass and I think this Ascot Chase course will suit him well.

2:05 Haydock

The 2:05 from Haydock is a Grade 2 over 3m for the staying hurdlers. It’ll be a real slog on Haydock’s heavy ground.

I like THIRD WIND NB (4/1) here for the shrewd Hughie Morrison operation. A previous winner here at Haydock and he won’t mind the deep ground we will get here. He’s had two runs this season improving from the first to the second and he should be raring to go now for this contest. Morrison has had 2 winners from 3 runners over the last 2 weeks so his horses appear to be running well.

2:25 Ascot

The Swinley Chase is next up, a listed handicap chase over 3m.

The one for me is FIDDLERONTHEROOF (9/4). He is the classiest animal in the race and is capable of giving weight away to this lot in my opinion. The Tizzard team continue in fine form and if this lad turns up in the same form as he did when second in the Ladbrokes Trophy, I can’t see him getting beat here.

2:40 Haydock

The 2:40 from Haydock is going to be a real test and I can’t see there being many finishes. It’s a handicap chase over 3m4f known as the Grand National Trial.

My selection is THE GALLOPING BEAR EW (17/2). A progressive stayer who was an impressive winner of the Surrey National under top weight at Lingfield last time out. He proved heavy ground should hold no fear that day and trainer Ben Clarke continues to show us he is a really good upcoming trainer. Rarely runs a bad race, I think he’s a good each way bet in a race you’ll probably get paid out if your horse finishes the race.

3:00 Ascot

The 3:00 from Ascot is a handicap hurdle over the intermediate 2m4f distance.

The one I’ve landed on in this is GOOD RISK AT ALL (7/4) NAP. He was a top bumper horse last season and although his hurdling hasn’t been great, it’s improved with every start and I think he will prove to be an awful lot better than his current mark. Charlie Deustch takes over and he’s riding as well as anyone at the moment.

3:20 Wincanton

The one race we have for Wincanton is the 2022 renewal of the Grade 2 Kingwell Hurdle over 2m.

My selection is ADAGIO (5/4) here. Goshen can’t be trusted at odds on and Adagio always seems to run his race. He shown us he trained in with a fine second in the Greatwood Hurdle under a big weight on his seasonal reappearance. He’s been kept fresh since and getting 3lb off Goshen, I’d favour him.

3:38 Ascot

The finale on ITV comes up at 3:38 and it’s the feature of the day. The Grade 1 Betfair Ascot Chase over 2m5f.

My selection is FAKIR D’OUDARIES (9/4). The Irish always have to be respected when making the trip over and this horse has a great record over in England which includes a Grade 1 win at Aintree last year. He will relish the deep ground here and if his jumping holds up, I expect him to prove tough to beat here today.
