ITV Racing Tips for Saturday 22nd October from Newbury, Cheltenham & Doncaster

ITV Racing Tips

1:50 Newbury

The first race comes from Newbury and it is the Horris Hill Stakes, a Group 3 over 7f for the 2 year-old colts.

The one for me here is GREYS MONUMENT (5/1) EW. The Ralph Beckett charge has plenty of experience but has put that experience to good use in winning his last two starts well. The victory last time out at York was comfortably a career best and showed a he’s still on the upgrade. Things appear to have clicked and I think his experience could prove beneficial against his rivals who’ve only ran once or twice.

2:05 Cheltenham

The first race from Cheltenham on ITV is a competitive handicap chase over the 3m1f trip.

I can’t get away from THE HOLLOW GINGE (10/3) NB here. He just looks the best horse in the race, this will have been a main target for him throughout the summer and I’m sure that can’t be said about a lot of his rivals in here. He runs well fresh and the stable do well at this meeting. He was second in this contest last year off a 10lb higher mark so if he runs to a similar level, he should win this well. He’ll do for me here.

2:25 Newbury

The 2:25 race is the St Simon Stakes, a Group 3 contest over 1m4f.

I think HAMISH (8/11) can round off a fine season with another win here. A winner on two of his three starts this season , he was a fine second to top stayer Kyprios in between and a repeat of any of them three wins will be good enough to take this. We may not have even seen the best of this horse yet given he’s had his injury problems over the years. The fact he is now getting a good collection of runs together has to be ominous. Tough to beat.

2:40 Cheltenham

The 2:40 is the Masterson Holding Hurdle for 4 year-olds over 2m.

I like PIED PIPER (Evens) here and he may be the double with Hamish. He relished Cheltenham in January when hosing up before finishing a fine third in the Truimph Hurdle. He was first past the post at Aintree and truth be told there isn’t much between him and Knights Salute on that evidence. However, I do feel this track will suit Pied Piper a lot more and I expect he’ll take the world of beating here.

3:00 Doncaster

The 3:00 from Doncaster is the Doncaster Stakes, a listed race for 2 year-olds over 6f.

The favourite hasn’t kicked on as expected and therefore I’m happy to chance his stablemate in this HISPANIC (4/1). He seems to be really progressing whilst Aesops Fables may well be going the other way. The selections victory last time out at the Curragh was impressive winning by 8L. Of course, this is a big step up but at the prices, I’d much prefer him over his stablemate.

3:15 Cheltenham

The 3:15 is another competitive handicap chase, this time over 2m.

I think CLEAR THE RUNWAY (3/1) NAP can land the five-timer this season already here. He’s obviously flying at the moment and in the form of his life. The quick ground will be beneficial and he won’t be lacking for fitness. That’s the thing that puts me off Editeur De Guye, although I think he’s the best horse in the race, he may just need this and I think CLEAR THE RUNWAY can run him down late on. The strong pace will suit and Adam Wedge is a master at nursing them into contention at the right time.

3:35 Doncaster

The 3:35 from Doncaster is next up and it is the Group 1 Vertem Futurity Reophy Stakes, a Group 1 over the mile.

The favourite Auguste Rodin brings strong form to be the table and should be favourite of course. However, the second last time out done nothing for the form and at odds-on I’m happy to avoid. I’ve landed on STORMBUSTER (11/1) EW who is progressing well and looks the overpriced one in the line-up. He shown potential in his first three starts despite not getting his head in front and the victory last time out at Newbury was a decisive one. He made all and found plenty for pressure to win going away by 5L. He may get a soft lead again here and he may just prove tough to peg back. I’d be hopeful he at least gets placed based on that.

3:50 Cheltenham

The 3:50 from Cheltenham is the Pertemps Network Handicap Hurdle over 3m.

I’ve landed on DIDTHEYLEAVEUOUTTO (111/) EW here. He ran a really eye-catching comeback run this season when first at Chepstow behind Knappers Hill in what looked a decent little race. He made decent headway late on there suggesting this step up to 3m should suit him well. The strong pace will suit and as long as they don’t get too much rain, I can see him going well at a price.

4:10 Doncaster

The final race on ITV comes up at 4:10 and it is a trappy 5f handicap.

The one for me is CAME FROM THE DARK (13/2). This is a decent drop in class for him and if he shows anything like his best form, he will ale an awful lot of beating here. He wasn’t disgraced last time out in 8th finishing only 3L behind winner Manaccan. That was the first run after a wind operation so hopefully now that’s sorted, he can resume winning ways.
