Longchamp Tips for Sunday 1st October 2023

Longchamp

1:15 Longchamp

The opener is the Qatar Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere, a Group 1 for the 2 year-olds over 7f.

It’s ROSALLION (8/1) I like in this. A really good winner on debut at Newbury, he then went to a hot listed race at Ascot and duly bolted up. That form has had several form boosts since suggesting this colt is clearly promising. He was third well beaten last time out at Doncaster but that was on soft ground and that clearly doesn’t play to his strengths. He’ll return to a faster surface here and I’m hopeful he can return to his original promise for star 2 year-old trainer Richard Hannon.

1:50 Longchamp

The 1:50 is the Qatar Prix Marcel Boussac – Criterium des Pouliches, a Group 1 for the 2 year-old fillies over the mile.

It’s OPERA SINGER (9/4) for me here. She has progressed with each outing in typical Aiden O’Brien fashion and she was ultra impressive when stepping to the mile for the first time last time out at the Curragh. That was at Group 3 level and she won by over 6 lengths. She will get similar ground today and it would be hard to get away from her today.

3:05 Longchamp

The feature comes up at 3:05, the Group 1 Qatar Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe over the 1m4f trip.

It’s THROUGH SEVEN SEAS (12/1) EW for me here. The ground has come good for the Japanese star and she comes here off the back off a career best when running arguably the best horse in the world Equinox to within a neck last time out. She was a good winner on his two previous starts too suggesting that was no fluke and Japanese horses are as good as ever in recent years suggesting she needs the ultimate respect in this contest. She has a lovely draw in stall 5 here and in an open renewal of the Arc where nothing stands out, she’s a solid each-way contender in my book.

3:50 Longchamp

The next Group 1 is the Prix de l’Opera Longines, a race for the fillies and mares over 1m2f.

It’s JACKIE OH (7/1) NB I like in this. Second behind Lumeire Rock in the Blandford Stakes last time out, I think she can reverse that form today. She stayed on strongly to go second and the winner had kicked and gone. That was her only her second try over the trip and she certainly wasn’t stopping at the line so I’d expect Ryan Moore to sit handier on this occasion and give her every chance. She was an impressive winner prior to that at Gowran and I believe we just haven’t seen the best of her yet. Today might well be that day.

4:25 Longchamp

The Group 1 action rolls on and it’s the turn of the speedsters next, the Prix de l’Abbaye de Longchamp Longines over 5 furlongs.

It’s GET AHEAD (14/1) EW for me in this. A good second last time out in the Flying Five where she just get headed in the final strides by the re-opposing Moss Tucker. On her last visit to France she was beaten a short head at Group 2 level so she can more than hold her form when coming over. She’ll relish the fast ground and from stall 9, she’ll be able to get a nice handy position just off the pace. This track does favour a low draw so stall 9 isn’t too bad at all. In a wide open race with nothing standing out, she has enough going for her to warrant an each-way selection.

5:00 Longchamp

The final Group 1 of the day comes up at 5:00 and it is the Qatar Prix de la Foret over 7 furlongs.

You can’t get away from KINROSS (11/10) NAP here who just looks a lot better than this lot. This will have been his main target for the season as it’s the only Group 1 over the trip which is his optimum. He bolted up in this race last year and he comes into it this season on the back of two victories, firstly at Goodwood before following up at York last time out. It looks written in the stars for Dettori to bow out on Arc day with a Group 1 winner.
