2:30 Soprano WIN – 4/1

She had been earmarked before her debut by George Boughey she might just be one to follow and duly obliged. The 2nd has gone on to win the Hilary Needler and ran with respect in the Queen Mary. She has been kept with this race in mind and the comments from Boughey certainly wouldn’t put you off. Carla’s Way has been well backed this week after her form was franked and will probably be the biggest danger.

3.05 Shouldvebeenaring E/W – 25/1

Little Big Bear is of course the one to beat, however, there is surely value in Shouldvebeenaring to place. Beaten just a length and quarter by him LTO, 8 lengths clear of 3rd. If he can replicate that run then he shouldn’t be far away. The rest of the 2000 Guineas runners will have to prove this drop in trip is what they desire, Noble Style was very poor when sprinting LTO beaten by Shaquille who is the improver. Sakheer hasn’t been seen since Newmarket and it is expected that he will be a sprinter for the future, but we don’t know yet.

3:40 Ajero E/W (NB) – 18/1

Only 10lbs separate the 20 runners with lightly raced improvers challenging seasoned handicappers. I’m going back to this race last year where Ajero finished 2nd behind a well-handicapped Candleford. He no doubt will have been aimed at this race again and with the handicapper taking off a couple of lbs since last time it puts him well in the mix. The booking of Jim Crowley catches the eye as this is the first time he’s ridden him since winning at Goodwood last year.

4:20 Tahiyra WIN – 8/13

No prizes for picking Tahiyra in this one, I was all over Mawj to uphold the form but after a bad scope has ruled her out I cannot see past Tahiyra. Usually, I’d pick an each-way play but with only 2 places it seems pointless, she’s the class horse in the race and the rest would need to improve or she underperform by about 10lbs for her not to win.

5:00 Coppice E/W – 11/2

I was a big fan of Calyx throughout his career and I have taken to his sister equally so, I think she has the potential to be a group filly. I think the softer conditions went against her in the Nell Gwynn and could make amends here. She will have to overcome inexperience in this big field but she has a good race weight and Dettori in the saddle she should have every chance.

5:35 King Of Steel WIN (NAP) – 6/5

At the time of writing, he is even money and I think that is a great price. To do what he did in the Derby after a long lay-off cannot be underestimated. Arrest ‘hated the ground’ at Epsom and with little rain forecast I don’t see how that will change. Beyond that there is little competition making King Of Steel a great bet.

6:10 Hispanic E/W – 16/1

It’s fair to say Ryan Moore was overly considerate when finding trouble LTO, you have to draw a line through that run as it was not his true running. He was dropped back to 5f at the Curragh and routed his rivals by 8 lengths, he was probably stretched by the 6f on Heavy at Doncaster and although he hasn’t seen quick ground I see no reason why he won’t act on it, he has the rail draw and Ryan Moore in the plate he could have more to come than most of these.
