York and Newmarket Betting Tips with the Dewhurst Stakes & Cesarewitch Featured

Newmarket racecourse

Saturday’s ITV Racing tips cover the seven live races being shown from Newmarket and York including the big two year old race the Dewhurst at Newmarket before one of the season’s best betting heats, the Cesarewitch due off at 3.35pm.

The flat season is coming to an end now and we are rounding off the Group races this weekend and next with Champions Day at Ascot. From there, the National Hunt season gets into full flow.

For this Saturday’s tips there are seven races featured and our bets include a strong pick in the Cesarewitch to round off the day’s ITV races.

1:50 Newmarket

The first race on ITV is the Group 3 Flying Zealand Stakes. A chance for the 2 year-old staying types to show their potential over 1m2f.

Flying Honours is a worthy favourite but I’ll take him on with BLANCHLAND (8/1) EW at the prices. It’s been a decent campaign for the Jane Chapple-Hyam stable and I feel her horses are always underrated in the market. The horse has improved with each outing this season and he came from off the pace to win well at Newcastle last time out to win going away by 2 lengths. I think this extra 2f can bring out further improvement and any rain should hold no fears.

2:05 York

First up from York is the Rockingham Stakes, a listed race for 2 year-olds over 6f.

It’s ROUSING ENCORE (4/1) EW for me here. A horse with plenty of experience, he put up a career best last time out to chase up the impressive Sakheer in the Mill Reef. There will again be a decent pace to aim at here and I don’t see a horse with the potential of Sakheer in this line-up. He looks an each-way bet to nothing for me at the current prices.

2:25 Newmarket

The 2:25 contest is the Autumn Stakes, a Group 3 over the mile.

I was really taken by EPICTETUS (2/1) NB on debut and I think he’s capable of landing this contest. The son of Kingman made an eye-catching debut win at Newcastle to win quite easily. The form of that race is working out well and we know Gosden’s always come on for that first run. With further improvement to come, I think he’ll improve past his rivals and win this.

2:40 York

Next up is a small field handicap over 1m and 2 and a half furlongs.

It’s PROTAGONIST (11/4) for me here. A real improver winning his two starts prior to his run last time out in the Cambridgeshire. He was drawn on the wrong side that day and I’m happy to draw a line through that run. The draw won’t stop him here with only five likely to go to post and he can regain that winning thread and continue on the upward curve. William Haggas has a fantastic record at the track to boost.

3:00 Newmarket

The feature on the day is a fantastic renewal of the Group 1 Darley Dewhurst Stakes over 7f for 2 year-olds.

I think NOSTRUM (6/4) NAP will win this and win it quite easily. A winner on debut which is always significant with a Michael Stoute 2 year-old, he improved again to beat a solid yardstick in Holloway Boy here at Newmarket on his second start. Chaldrean should set a decent pace and the stiff finish of Newmarket will be ideal for him. He’ll be staying on strongest and I think he’ll pick them off in the final half a furlong. I would t put people off backing him for the Derby next year as I think he’ll improve with age and improve for a step up in trip.

3:15 York

The 3:15 from York is the wide open Sprint Trophy handicap over 6f.

It’s LUCKY MAN (10/1) EW for me. He’s a lot more unexposed than many of the familiar names in this line-up before a 3 year-old and I think he was unlucky not to win last time out at Ayr. He was a good fourth that day despite being slowly away. Prior to that he was a decent winner over this course and distance. He’s drawn in stall 6 and with Dakota Gold drawn in 2, he should get a decent pace to aim at.

3:40 Newmarket

The 3:40 is the competitive Cesarewitch handicap over 2m2f.

It’s RUN FOR OSCAR (4/1) for me here. Obviously, he’s been laid out for this by the shrewd Charles Byrnes stable and he looks well handicapped to go close. He won well at Haydock last time out off 9lb lower but I believe connections were happy with that as they wanted to ensure he got in. He’s off 95 now but I still think he’s capable of winning of that mark. The extreme trip will be ideal as he’s full of stamina and the booking of top jockey David Egan is a significant one.
