York Ebor Festival Day 2 Tips – ITV Racing Preview for Thursday 19th August

1:50 York

The 1:50 race is the Lowther Stakes, a Group 2 race for the 2 year-old fillies over 6f. Sandrine is the current market leader as she bids to make it 4 wins from 4 starts.

However, I think HELLO YOU EW (15/2) is an each way bet to nothing here. She has been placed behind Sandrine on her last two starts in Group races and they certainly bring the best form to the table. She ran too free last time and hung badly so done well to only miss out by 2l. She now gets a first time hood which will hopefully help her settle which will bring out further improvement. I can’t see her being at the frame and she’s capable of going very close to victory in my opinion.

 

2:25 York

Next up at 2:25 is a competitive renewal of the Yearling Stakes over 6fz

The one for me is SYSTEM (4/1) NAP. Richard Hannon knows what it takes to win this race and the connections of runaway winner Mums Tipple in this race can win it again here. System is a horse progressing well and he ran a decent race in Group 3 company last time out which will translate well to a race of this nature. The fast ground here at York will suit him well and it’ll take a good one to beat him. He’s still unexposed too.

 

3:00 York

The 3:00 race is another very competitive handicap for punters to get stuck into. It’s over the 7f trip and La Trinidad is the current market leader at 6/1.

The one for me is ORBAAN (11/1) EW. He ran a cracker in the Lincoln on seasonal debut finishing a good fifth behind some well handicapped rivals. He was disappointing on his next two starts before his last effort at Goodwood where he was really unlucky, he got no sort of run and done well to stay on for sixth. David O’Meara has a great record in handicaps here at York and has won 2 of the last 8 renewals of this race. Orbaan is a course and distance winner and hopefully Jamie Spencer can wheal his way through traffic and at least hit the frame for us.

 

3.35 York

The Yorkshire Oaks is next up, a Group 1 for the fillies and mares over the 1m4f trip. The star of the season Snowfall heads the market at 4/11 and she has been sensational this season so it’s easy to see why she’s favourite. She has been faultless and connections will be aiming to use this as a stepping stone for the Arc. However, stable form has been hit and miss and people taken 4/11 might be crazy if Wonderful Tonight runs.

I think WONDERFUL TONIGHT (9/2) EW is an each way bet to nothing here surely. She’s the same price here as she is for the Arc in October which is insane. I think she’s a superstar horse too and you are making profit even if she comes second to Snowfall. Of course, there is a chance she might not run but it’s then a case of money back and enjoy watching Snowfall strut her stuff. Wonderful Tonight is a horse of the highest quality and she is improving with every run. She has to be another each way bet to nothing here for me.
