Glorious Goodwood Lucky 15 Tips for Day 2 on ITV Racing – Wednesday 29th July
The highlight of Day 2 at Goodwood is the Sussex Stakes featuring several previous Group 1 winners, and that contest is supported by a Group 3 contest for 2-year-olds.
Both races are featured in this Glorious Goodwood day 2 lucky 15 tip alongside a competitive handicap and a useful fillies race. All of the main contenders are discussed below to help with selecting four horses for a Lucky 15 with each race televised on ITV.
Goodwood Lucky 15 Day 2 Tip
1.45 – True Destiny
2.45 – Steel Bull
3.15 – Circus Maximus
3.45 – Spright

Unibet Goodwood Handicap – 1.45 Goodwood
A very competitive affair is expected for this extended 2m4f Class 2 handicap with True Destiny expected to start as one of the favourites. Third over two miles at Newbury last time, he raced as though this extra distance would suit and he was a close third in this event last season.
Opposition will include Coeur De Lion who won the Ascot Stakes in his previous race at a generous price. Fitness from racing over hurdles and a short break probably helped that day while Summer Moon bids to reverse a one-length defeat in that contest, although the latter horse has since raced very poorly in Group company.
It is likely that Paul Nicholls will have Oleg fully tuned for this event although his latest victory at Pontefract was nothing special. There could also be a decent showing from top-weight The Grand Visir who finished a very close second in the Queen Alexandra Stakes behind Who Dares Wins. He is ideally suited by a test of stamina.
Tip – True Destiny to win.
Markel Insurance Molecomb Stakes – 2.45 Goodwood
A 5f Group 3 race for 2-year-olds, this contest could be an opportunity for Irish-trained Steel Bull to prove his credentials after comfortably winning a Naas maiden event on his only appearance to date. He won by nearly three lengths despite a slow start.
He will be opposed by Sardinia Sunset who scored at the third time of asking when claiming a Listed event at York earlier this month, while Significantly has been narrowly beaten in all three of his starts but seems to idle when leading inside the final furlong.
Other contenders include Army Of India who followed a disappointing effort in the Coventry Stakes by an impressive victory in a Lingfield 6f race. There is just a suggestion that he may not be suited by this course and distance while Chief Little Hawk has failed to win any of three Listed events since scoring on his racecourse debut.
Tip – Steel Bull to Win.
Qatar Sussex Stakes – 3.15 Goodwood
This 1m Group 1 contest features an intriguing clash between the winners of the 2020 Newmarket and Irish 2,000 Guineas with the unbeaten Siskin set to start favourite. Trained by Ger Lyons in Ireland, the 3-year-old colt has not won by more than three lengths in any of his five victories but has proved his battling qualities.
Newmarket winner Kameko did not really perform in the Epsom Derby where he finished fourth behind Serpentine but he has twice won in Group 1 company over a mile. He finished well when winning the 2,000 Guineas but he may not necessarily be suited by this easier course.
Among the older horses, Circus Maximus finished second in this race last season behind Too Darn Hot but won the Queen Anne Stakes at Ascot in his only racecourse appearance this season. He rarely wins by any significant distance but is a triple Group 1 winner.
Mohaather was comfortably beaten in the ‘Queen Anne’ at Newmarket and whereas he later beat San Donato at Ascot, neither horse has won at this level.
As for Wichita, he has never finished outside of the first three placings but has won just twice in six outings while Vatican City may prove to be better over a further distance.
Tip – Circus Maximus to Win.
British Stallions Studs EBF Fillies’ Conditions Stakes – 3.45 Goodwood
Only six horses have been declared for this 2-year-old 5f Class 2 race but it should be an interesting affair. Miss Jingles could be in contention after winning a 5f maiden at Sandown which followed a racecourse debut in which she may not have stayed six furlongs.
Country Carnival could also be a contender after a close third place behind the useful Sardinia Sunset at York, and that race followed victory in a minor event at Beverley. Furlong Factor finished just a nose ahead of the David O’Meara filly that day after a busy campaign to date.
However, it may be that Spright may emerge as one of the leading players after scoring by five lengths at York last time. He had previously been placed a close second at Doncaster and may not be inconvenienced by this one furlong less to race.
Tip – Spright to Win.
