Horse Racing Tips and Predictions for a Lucky 15 on Saturday 31st August

Chester races

Two Group 3 races at Sandown are the main highlights of this Saturday afternoon’s horse racing tips, with the Solario Stakes often won by decent two-year-olds in previous seasons including Too Darn Hot last year and Derby winner Masar in 2017.

A Listed 1m6f event at Chester and a 5f sprint up the Beverley hill complete the races for which the main contenders are discussed below. All four races will be featured on ITV racing.

Sportpesa Chester Stakes – 2.45 Chester

Irish trainer Dermot Weld rarely sends horses to Chester, but he has declared Stivers for this 1m6f Listed contest. The useful 6-year-old ex-Argentinian horse has yet to feature on a racecourse in the UK, but a tilt at the Melbourne Cup is a possibility and this race is being used as a potential trial.

Among a small field of opponents is Tribal Craft who will be stepping upwards in class after failing to win two Class 2 handicaps in her latest outings while Outbox has similar credentials but was a narrow second in a Listed contest at Chantilly over this distance back in June.

Persian Moon from the Mark Johnston yard could also be a threat but he has yet to win in eight starts this year.

Tip – Stivers to Win (4/1 with Betfair).

Betway Atalanta Stakes – 3.00 Sandown

Staged over one mile for fillies and mares, this Group 3 contest is expected to feature Jubiloso from the Sir Michael Stoute stable. After winning her opening two low-key races, the 3-year-old was pitched into Group 1 company when competing in the Coronation Stakes at Royal Ascot. She was not disgraced in third position and followed that performance by another third placing at Goodwood when probably not suited by the 7f distance.

Jubiloso will be difficult to beat but Duneflower will be a dangerous opponent. Trained by John Gosden, she emerged from handicap company to win a Listed event at Ascot last time and seems to be an improving filly.

Exhort will also provide worthwhile opposition after running creditably in Listed company this season including beating Billesdon Brook at Pontefract last month.

Tip – Jubiloso to win (10/11 with Betfair)

William Hill Beverley Bullet Sprint Stakes – 3.15 Beverley

For this 5f Listed race at Beverley, Queens Gift will hope to extend a winning sequence of two races but each success has been achieved in low-grade handicaps. The Northern trained horse last raced over course and distance last summer where she was unable to cope with Nearest Green in a small-runner field.

Tis Marvellous appeals as a more potential winner after claiming a 5f Class 2 handicap at Ascot last time. The 5-year-old gelding also finished second in the Wokingham over 6f and should be able to cope with this stiff uphill finish.

Among the other challengers, Danzeno was a 6f winner at Haydock last month and finished a close third in the Wokingham while Judicial has been running in Group company against the top-class sprinters. The 7-year-old has also registered victories from both starts over course and distance in previous seasons.

Tip – Judicial to Win (9/1 with Betfair)

Betway Solario Stakes – 3.35 Sandown

This 7f Group 3 race for 2-year-olds usually attracts a decent field and Charlie Appleby will be hoping for another decent performance from Al Suhail. After a neck debut defeat at Newmarket, the Godolphin colt was an easy winner of a four-runner event at York over this distance. This race will be a much tougher contest, but there may be more to come from this horse.

One of his more dangerous opponents will be Positive who easily won a Salisbury maiden before encountering the impressive Pinatubo at Goodwood. The Clive Cox colt could not cope with the winner that day but still finished five lengths clear of third-placed and well-regarded Aidan O’Brien colt Lope Y Fernandez.

It would also be unwise to ignore Visinari who was a well-beaten fourth in that Goodwood event but who may be better suited by a sounder surface.

Tip – Positive to Win (Evens with Betfair)
