ITV Racing 2000 Guineas Day Betting Tips for Newmarket & Newcastle
A really exciting weekend of racing starts here and I for one I’m looking forward to settling in and watching the action live on ITV with my Newmarket and Newcastle big race betting tips.
I have previewed 6 races from the ITV coverage and have a strong win selection at Newmarket along with plenty of e/w fancies at Newmarket and Newcastle to get stuck into including two in the big one on the day, the Group 1 2000 Guineas.
CLAIM NOW – 11/10 for Pinatubo to win.
1.50pm Newmarket
The first of my selections at Newmarket comes in the Group 3 Palace House Stakes over 5f live on ITV. A wide-open betting market with the current favourite being priced up at 9/2 and that is the James Tate trained Far Above who shown useful form last season and more improvement seems likely but I believe 6f would suit this one better.
The horse for me is the Clive Cox trained SHADES OF BLUE 7/1 E/W. This horse is all speed and he shown strong form over the distance throughout last season and I’m confident Clive will be able to eek more improvement over him this season starting here. Adam Kirkby takes the ride and the pair team up well together. The ground won’t be an issue and it’s a cracking e/w bet.

2.25 Newmarket
The 2.25 race live on ITV is the Betfair Dahlia Fillies Stakes. Godolphin have the front two in the market with Magic Lily who has been running well in Meydan at the start of the and the John Gosden trained Terebellum. Queen Power sits just behind the pair in the market and will prove popular from the Sir Michael Stoute team considering he has won this race six times so knows what it takes.
The one for me is TEREBELLUM 6/4 WIN. Trained by the master that is John Gosden he managed to win a group two on only his third career start last season. The rain that continued to fall throughout Friday and is forecast for Saturday will only help her chance. I’m expecting more improvement for this unexposed sort and I think we will see Frankie on a winner in the famous Godolphin silks.
3.00 Newmarket
The 3.00 race is a Listed contest over the 1m2f distance and the market favourite is Waldkonig who won in clearcut fashion on his only career start last season. He is a half-brother to the 2019 Arc winner Waldgeist and it is easy to see why hes priced up as 5/4 favourite here.
The horse for me is one owned by the Queen and that is PUNCTUATION 6/1 EW. Trained by Andrew Balding and ridden by Oisin Murphy who have made a really strong start to the season. This horse was arguably just as impressive on his second career start after a promising first run bounding clear at Kempton and more improvement is expected for this 3-year-old. At 6/1 he has to be the value bet here.

3.35 Newmarket
The fascinating 2000 Guineas is obviously the one we’re all excited for being the first Classic of the year and Pinatubo heads the market at Evens. It is going to be fascinating to see if he has trained on from the age of 2 to 3 and it would be great for the sport if he has.
I am going to play two at big prices here and take on the favourite. The first of those is the Aiden O’Brien second string WICHITA 14/1 EW. This horse shown useful form last season ending in a third behind the two favourites here Pinatubo and Arizona. I think the step up in trip will suit Wichita and it wouldn’t be the first time Aiden wins a Guineas with his second string. It is also an eye-catching jockey booking as the great Frankie Dettori takes the reigns.
I am also going to advise a small punt on another Aiden O’Brien horse and it is ROYAL DORNOCH 40/1 EW. This horse had plenty of experience at the age of 2 and can be that to good use here. Royal Dornoch won a group 2 over this course and distance in September beaten the well fancied Kameko who is only 7/1 for this same race. Another eye-catching booking with Tom Marquand taken the ride and he will be relishing this opportunity.

2.05 Newcastle
The 2.05 is a class 2 handicap over the 7f distance and it is full of potential improvers this season. The 11/4 favourite is Daarik and this progressive sort is expectd to run well for strong connections.
I like one at a price here and it is LORD OBERON 16/1 EW. This horse has previously ran well when fresh and there is no reason why he can’t again here. Trainer Karl Burke reaches for 1st time headgear which should have a positive effect and perk the horse up a bit. The horse has also recently undergone wind surgery which again can only be a positive. 16/1 seems more than fair here.
2.40 Newcastle
Newcastle is the host of the re-routed Sagaro Stakes today and this 2m race looks a cracker on paper.
The market leader is currently Ispolini at 4/1 ridden by Brett Doyle, trained by Charlie Appleby. This horse showed consistently strong form throughout last year including winning his final start in a Group 1 race in Germany back in September.
The one for me is the Roger Charlton trained WITHHOLD 7/1 EW. Withold won the Northumberland Plate here and I think the change of headgear with bring a return to form. Kingscote takes the ride and there aren’t many better jockeys from the front and I think he can time the fractions to perfection here aboard WITHHOLD.
