Lucky 15 Betting Tips for Day 2 of York’s 2020 Ebor Festival
The highlight of Day 2 at York’s Ebor Festival is the appearance of exciting filly Love in the Yorkshire Oaks. Likely to start at short odds-on favourite, that race is bypassed for this preview in favour of the Lowther, Galtres and Yearling Stakes which have attracted decent fields. A mid-afternoon handicap is also included for Lucky 15 purposes with all four races televised on ITV.

The four selections make up a 600/1 accumulator for York this week – we’d recommend an each-way lucky 15 bet!
Sky Bet Lowther Stakes – 1.45 York
For this 6f Group 2 event reserved for 2-year-old fillies, Sacred could be one of the leading players after finishing second in Ascot’s Queen Mary Stakes. The first two finished clear of the remainder and the William Haggas trained filly had earlier won a Newmarket maiden. This extra distance could suit.
There was also much like about the way Santosha won a Group 3 race at Ascot last time over 6f. She beat Hala Hala Hala into second position and there is no reason to suggest that placings can be reversed. The runner-up may be better over further.
It may be also worth noting Umm Kulthum who was a slow starter in his only race at Thirsk but then travelled strongly to win comfortably, and there is also Irish trained Sussex Garden who was no match for an Aidan O’Brien juvenile at the Curragh last time after winning on her debut.
Goffs UK Premier Yearling Stakes – 2.15 York
Mums Tipple hammered the opposition in this 6f Class 2 race last season, and Devious Company could be a leading contender in the 2020 renewal. A winner of his first two starts, he has since finished second in Group 2 company at Newmarket and Goodwood. The only uncertainty is dropping down from 7f.
As for Happy Romance, he has not raced beyond 5f in all four outings this Summer while winning twice. He won a Class 2 race at Newbury on his latest appearance after a decent display in the Queen Mary. Tinochio was four lengths adrift that day at Newbury but was very unlucky in running and will benefit from a 7lb weight turnaround. He had previously won comfortably at Hamilton and may appreciate this extra distance.
It would also be unwise to ignore in-form trainer Roger Varian who saddles Line Of Departure. He has improved with each race this season and won a 6f Nursery at Ascot last time.
Clipper Logistics Handicap – 2.45 York
A maximum field of 20 has been declared for this 1m Class 2 handicap and Top Rank will aim to stay unbeaten in five races. The lightly raced 4-year-old won much more easily than the four lengths victory margin at Thirsk last time and deserves this slight step upwards in grade. He has been raised significantly higher in the ratings.
Challengers include Montatham and Prompting. The former gelding has been consistent this term winning two of three races and he overturned a previous close defeat by Dark Vision in his latest outing. He has never finished outside of the first four placings in nine races.
Prompting will be seeking a four-timer this Summer after winning at Ayr and this course over 7f and then claiming the Golden Mile handicap at Goodwood. He has been steadily rising in the weights.
Sir Busker has much to find with Prompting following that Goodwood contest despite a slight weight advantage while Documenting won over 7f at York last time and is still rated fairly favourably compared to his all-weather mark.
British EBF and Sir Henry Cecil Galtres Stakes – 3.45 York
After winning a low-key race at Beverley on her seasonal reappearance, Golden Pass now steps upwards in class and distance to tackle this 1m4f Listed event. The daughter of Derby winner Golden Horn will improve for that outing and appreciate this trip.
However, she faces strong opposition with Gold Wand only just beaten in a Listed event at this course by Franconia last time. She had previously failed to handle the Epsom downs when well adrift in the Oaks after winning a Newbury maiden. She is another daughter of Golden Horn.
Lady G is another sibling who just failed to land a Newbury Listed event in her prior contest but may lack finishing pace at the end of races, whereas potential favourite Vivionn was third in Group 3 company on her previous outing when beaten by useful fillies Manuela De Vega and Fanny Logan.
Other horses worth noting are Albaflora, who was second in the Musidora Stakes at this course last time, and Star Terms who races for the first time this year, but featured in several high-class contests last term which includes winning a Listed event at Longchamp.GOLD WAND @ 5/1
