Lucky 15 Tips for Day 3 of the 2020 York Ebor Festival
Unbeaten in two races this season, Battaash attempts to repeat his winning performance in the 2019 Nunthorpe Stakes on Day 3 of the York Ebor Festival and we’ve got a lucky 15 tip.
The sprinter is likely to start as a short odds-on favourite so for lucky 15 purposes, the main contenders of 2 other Group races, a valuable maiden contest and a competitive handicap are previewed. All four races will be televised on ITV.
York Lucky 15 Tip
Sky bet Handicap – 1.45 York
Eleven horses have been declared for this 1m4f Class 2 handicap with Zabeel Champion well-fancied in the markets after winning two handicaps at Newmarket this season before finishing runner-up in a Class 2 handicap at Goodwood. Recent performances suggest that he is more than capable of staying this distance after campaigning over ten furlongs.
This trip could also suit Dark Jedi who seemed to be outpaced near the finish of a recent ten furlongs race at Newcastle and he was badly hampered during the closing stages.
More will also be expected from Dash Of Spice after two fairly moderate efforts this season. However, he now returns to a winning rating from last season when he claimed a Class 2 handicap at Ascot last Summer which followed a similar victory at Epsom.
Weatherbys Hamilton Lonsdale Cup – 2.15 York
After comfortably beating two other runners to win the Lillie Langtry Stakes at Goodwood, Enbihaar seeks to win her first race over two miles having previously claimed three victories at 1m6f. She is also a multiple Group 2 winner at twelve and fourteen furlongs.
Strong opposition will be provided by Nayef Road who has twice been beaten by Stradivarius this season but who had earlier won the Sagaro Stakes over two miles at Newcastle. Third in the St Leger, he has yet to win above Group 3 level but his performance in the Goodwood Cup was particularly encouraging.
In contrast, Dashing Willoughby has won a Group 2 race when claiming the Queen’s Vase last season at Ascot, and he has demonstrated more consistency this term by winning on both outings, the latter being a decent performance in Sandown’s Group 3 Henry II Stakes over two miles.
Eagles By Day could also come into the reckoning based on his victory over 1m6f on this course last month but his performance over two miles in the Goodwood Cup was less encouraging.
Al Basti Equiworld Dubai Gimcrack Stakes – 2.45 York
After a promising fourth-placed debut at Ascot last month, Minzaal easily won at Salisbury on his next appearance and could be a leading candidate in this 6f Group 2 contest. He was never troubled in that race when winning by nearly fourth lengths.
Opposition will be provided by Yazaman who claimed victory in his Yarmouth debut but has then finished second in his three subsequent contests amid suggestions that he is unable to quicken in the closing stages.
Among the others, Lauded has twice been comfortably beaten in two previous Group 2 events whereas Mohawk King could be a better horse than his narrow victory at Ascot last month in his only start.
Both Mystery Smiles and Devilwala will attempt to stay unbeaten but they face much tougher tasks in this contest although the latter horse demonstrated battling qualities when scoring at Haydock.
British Stallion Studs EBF Convivial Maiden Stakes – 4.15 York
Tawleed from the John Gosden yard will be a difficult opponent after finishing second in his only outing. He may be a better colt over this extra furlong after being slightly outpaced by the winner that day at Goodwood.
It may also be that Rushmore improves from his only appearance when nearly eight lengths behind Maximal at Newbury. He ran very green that day and produced his best work close to the finish while Broomy Law was beaten into third place by a much-improved horse at Haydock.
