Royal Ascot 2019 is upon us and below you will find a big race preview of all six races from the day 1 card, on Tuesday 18th June.
Three Group 1 races feature on the opening day of the Royal Ascot meeting with the first two horses in the Irish 2,000 Guineas engaged in a re-match when contesting the St James’s Palace Stakes. That race is supported by a very competitive card and all six races are discussed below.

For this 2m4f handicap, Buildmeupbuttercup is an interesting entrant from the Willie Mullins Irish stable. The 5-year-old mare won her opening hurdle race back in December but disappointed thereafter in National Hunt racing. In three races last season on the flat, she didn’t really impress for then-trainer Mick Channon and there is no evidence to suggest that she is capable of taking this prize.
Several other National Hunt trainers are represented in this race but in a very open contest, it may be worth watching the versatile Mixboy who has winning form over this 2m4f distance and is a consistent performer.
Betting Tip: Mixboy EW (33/1 with Paddy Power)
Mark Johnston is confident of a decent performance from Elarqam in this 1m2f Listed contest and his 4-year-old colt returned from wind surgery to finish a promising fourth in his seasonal appearance at Newmarket before claiming a decent Goodwood race at this level last month.
Star of Bengal from the John Gosden stable could be a danger but he has yet to win on the turf, while 2018 Irish Derby winner Latrobe should not be ignored at this level.
Betting Tip: Elarqam to Win (4/1 with Paddy Power)
