Grand National 2021 Betting Tip – 100/1 each-way bet and the main contenders for the National
After a one-year hiatus, due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the ‘world’s most famous steeplechase’, the Grand National, returns to Aintree on April 10th, 2021.
We’ve cast an eye over the likely contenders and brought to light a selection that may surprise you; it certainly surprised us!
The bookies are likely to change or remove their sign-up bonuses as we get closer to the Grand National so it is advisable to get a free bet sooner rather than later to use on the big race. The selected list of these are available below the Grand National tip and bet365 are the current bookmaker of choice because they are already offering best odds guaranteed AND non-runner no bet on the 2021 renewal.
Cloth Cap
The ante-post favourite, Cloth Cap (4/1), whose is 14lb ‘well in’ at the weights, is an obvious starting point. A comfortable winner of the Ladbrokes Trophy Chase at Newbury in November and the Bet365 Premier Chase at Kelso in March, Jonjo O’Neill’s 9-year-old looks a worthy favourite, especially with the going at Aintree in his favour. Jockey Tom Scudamore has suggested that, ‘In any other handicap, he’d be even shorter…’, but his lack of experience over the National fences is a cause for concern; in our opinion, any value in his price is long gone, in any case.
Any Second Now
Second favourite Any Second Now (10/1) won the Fulke Walwyn Kim Muir Challenge Cup, over 3 miles 2 furlongs, at the 2019 Cheltenham Festival, but his two most recent successes have come over 2 miles. Trainer Ted Walsh believes he has ‘a good a chance as [his 2000 winner] Papillon’ but, for us, he has too many questions to answer at the odds on offer.
Burrows Saint
A similar comment applies to Burrows Saint (12/1), who won the Irish Grand National at Fairyhouse in 2019, but has won just once since, albeit easily, over hurdles at Punchestown in December that year. He has a touch of class and is another who should be suited by the likely underfoot conditions but, even so, we think there’s better value to be found elsewhere.
Kimberlite Candy
Kimberlite Candy (14/1) was pulled up behind Burrows Saint in the aforementioned Irish Grand National and has raced just three times since. He has twice finished second in the Becher Chase, over the National fences and, in between times, won the Classic Chase at Warwick. He has won on good to soft going, but his best form is on soft and heavy, so drying conditions at Aintree are against him. Indeed, the going on the National course is currently good, good to soft in places, with watering in progress so, with little or no rain forecast, it’s probably safe to say that any out-and-out mudlarks would be better off staying at home on Grand National Day.
Grand National Betting Tip 2021
However, one horse who should run his race regardless of the weather, and has experience over the National fences, is Minellacelebration (100/1). Katy Price’s 11-year-old is 3-4 on the Mildmay Course at Aintree, so clearly enjoys the Merseyside air, and must have a sporting chance at a huge price. He stays well, for all he has yet to win beyond 3 miles 2 furlongs, and has jumped the National fences adequately enough on two attempts in the Becher Chase; he did unseat his rider in that race in December, but did so on the flat after jockey Ben Poste lost an iron.
With a clear round, Cloth Cap must have every chance of winning a fourth Grand National for owner Trevor Hemmings but, with conditions turning increasingly in his favour, Minellacelebration is just too big a price to resist!
Selection: Minellacelebration
