Dublin Racing Festival: Get our HUGE 2365/1 Treble for Sunday’s Handicaps

DRF 2024 betting tips

After a brilliant day 1 of the Dublin Racing Festival, we have three more handicaps amongst the Grade 1 action on Sunday and the odds for this treble are massive.

We’d advise some caution with this bet given the odds of two of the selections are currently 25/1 but a small each-way treble or trixie could give the hope of a huge return from a relatively small stake.

1.10pm – Irish Stallion Farms Ebf Paddy Mullins Mares Handicap Hurdle

The mares get a chance to shine in the opening race on day two of the Dublin Racing Festival. Gordon Elliott has a good recent record in the contest, saddling Black Tears to victory in 2020 before winning the race with Party Central last year.

Liberty Dance 5/2 appears to have standout claims and could be thrown in off a mark of 129. Pitched in to Grade 3 company for her hurdles debut, the daughter of Soldier Of Fortune has improved plenty since, recording a couple of impressive wins at Thurles.

The form of those wins has been franked by the mares in behind. Foxy Girl and Belle The Lioness have come out and won races since, whilst The Model Kingdom travelled extremely well for a long way against the highly touted Impaire Et Passe in the Grade 2 Moscow Flyer. With experience in fields of fifteen plus runners, I am not worried about the hustle and bustle of handicap company and the ground should be absolutely fine.

Gordon could’ve sent a whole host of mares to this race, so I will take it as sign of confidence that just the two, Liberty Dance and Rock On Cassie, line up. Fingers crossed we are on the right one.

2.40pm – Bulmers Leopardstown Handicap Chase

Indigo Breeze heads the current betting for a fiercely competitive renewal of the Bulmers Leopardstown Handicap Chase. He hasn’t been seen since finishing under a length behind The Real Whacker at Cheltenham in November. That form looks strong, with the The Real Whacker now sitting close to the top of the Brown Advisory betting after beating Monmiral in the Grade 2 Dipper at Cheltenham on New Year’s Day.

Given The Real Whacker is now rated 153, Indigo Breeze could have a stone in hand off 133. He travelled like that winner at Cheltenham but didn’t seem to want to go past The Real Whacker. This step back down in trip looks a good move but I do have a niggling doubt about his finishing effort.

In his ten starts under rules to date, he’s been turned over at odds of 100/30 on seven occasions, hitting the frame in five of those runs. He may well prove me wrong but he’s a favourite I would be looking to take on.

You can make a case for plenty of these but the one that interested me most was last year’s winner Birchdale 25/1. He won the race last year off a mark of 133, not including his rider’s claim, and returns here off a mark just 2lb higher. Interestingly, connections campaigned him through the summer months, but Birchdale was unable to produce any performance of note.

His handicap mark did drop 6lbs as a result and I thought it was eye catching to see connections potentially pitch him in here. I would expect to see Bolger and JP opt for a claimer, in which case, Birchdale will be weighted to at least be competitive. The ground should be fine, and he’s won off a 269 day break in the past so I am hoping the absence shouldn’t be an issue. At a double figure price, he could be worth chancing.

4.10pm – Festina Lente Charity Liffey Handicap Hurdle

Gaelic Warrior is one of the most talked about horses in training and sits at the top of the betting for the final handicap of the Dublin Racing Festival. Listening to Rich Ricci and Patrick Mullins talk during the past week, I got the feeling he may not come here and instead head straight to Cheltenham.

Stablemate Icare Allen has no doubt been put away for this and his juvenile form with the likes of Fil Dor, Vauban and Il Etait Temps looks strong. He’s off a high mark of 142 and may have to shoulder top weight. Effernock Fizz 28/1 looked a little overpriced to me considering how well she has been running this season.

With a huge 72 races under her belt, she seems to have found a new lease of life. She finished second to Jesse Evans in a Grade 3 event at Tipperary back in October, before winning the Welsh Champion Hurdle. She backed that effort up with an excellent run over fences at Cheltenham October’s meeting and appeared to have a little pipe opener on the flat a couple of weeks ago.

She runs here off an Irish mark of 133 which is the exact same mark she won the Welsh Champion Hurdle off. Granted she’s in Irish company now, but given how well she has performed this season, I thought 28/1 was a very generous price.
