Doncaster racing tips

ITV Racing are covering four races from Doncaster on Friday 15th September and we have asked Henry to pick out his best bet from each race for a lucky 15 tip.

There are a total of eight races from Doncaster on Friday but only four are being shown on ITV Racing so we are focusing on those races for our betting tips. This is the second day of the St Leger meeting with the big race taking place on Saturday.

See our Doncaster lucky 15 tip below and a preview of each race.

1:50 Doncaster

The first race on ITV is the Flying Scotsman Stakes, a listed contest over 7f for the 2 year-olds.

It’s LOCAL HERO (7/1) I like here. I was really taken by his debut victory at Kempton where he travelled well throughout before showing a useful turn of foot to win by over 5 lengths. He was in against a couple of colts who had set a fair standard on debut so to beat them by over 5 lengths was really promising. Richard Hannon is a master with his 2 year-olds as we know and the stable are in as good of form as they’ve been all season at present. I think the soft ground will be fine and he’s the one I like in the opener.

2:25 Doncaster

Next up we have the Flying Childers Stakes, a Group 2 race again for the 2 year-olds but this time over the 5f trip.

It’s FLORA OF BERMUDA (13/2) NAP for me here. She has ran as a consistent level throughout her 2 year-old campaign. The daughter of Dark Angel improved from her debut effort to finish a very unlucky second at Beverley on just her second start. She then went to Royal Ascot and finished a very respectable 6th in the Queen Mary, a race that is working out well. She put up a career best at Goodwood on her next start powering clear to win by 4 lengths on her first run on soft ground. I’m happy to draw a line through her latest effort when running over 6f on very fast ground. She now returns to 5f and gets back on soft ground so she’ll do for me.

3:00 Doncaster

The 3:00 is the 2023 renewal of the Group 2 Doncaster Cup and 5 stayers go to post for this 2m2f race.

It’s COLTRANE (5/4) for me here. He beat Trueshan in this contest last season and despite giving him 3lb this year, he’s improved whilst Trueshan seems to have gone the other way. Coltrane beat Trueshan by over 6 lengths earlier in season in the Sagaro Stakes too. Sweet William has a lot to find based on his second in the Ebor. Coltrane comes here off the back of another victory beating the Gold Cup winner last time out at York. He’s a worthy favourite in my opinion.

3:35 Doncaster

The final race on the Friday ITV coverage is the Mollard Handicap over the 1m6f trip.

It’s THE GOAT (9/4) NB for me here. He finished a respectable 6th in the competitive Melrose handicap last time out and this race doesn’t look anywhere near as deep as that race was. Prior to that, he bolted up on soft ground at Goodwood and looked to really relish conditions that day. He gets back on soft ground here and he’s on an upward curve. I think he’ll take a lot of beating on what could be a good day for jockey and trainer.
