New Year’s Day 2021 Horse Racing Tips for the ITV Racing

2021 has arrived and despite the postponement of the Cheltenham New Year’s Day meeting, there are still live races scheduled from Musselburgh, Exeter and the return of Al Boum Photo at Tramore on ITV Racing.

1:20 Musselburgh

The opener on ITV is a competitive handicap hurdle over just shy of 2m4f. Sebastopol sits at the top of the market is still fairly unexposed for the Tom Lacey team. The Tom Lacey horses aren’t running as well as we expect recently so I’m happy to look elsewhere.

The one I like is ACCOMPLICE. Trained by Paul Nicholls who continues to bang in the winners, Nicholls also has a fantastic strike rate at the track which is encouraging. The horse bounced back to form when a good second last time out at Wincanton and this step back up in trip looks the right move.

 

1:40 Exeter

The 1:40 race from Exeter is a mares handicap hurdle ran over 2m3f. It’ll take a strong stayer at the trip on what will be really testing ground.

The one I like here is MISTY BLOOM. Misty Bloom ran her best race for a long time when third last time out at Sandown. She is a previous course and distance winner here at Exeter and will be staying on strongly over this trip. Emma Lavelle is in tremendous form at the moment and she can have another winner here.

 

1:55 Musselburgh

The 1:55 race is another handicap hurdle for us to get stuck into, this one is ran over 2m.

The horse I like here is ROSIE AND MILLIE NB. He finished second two starts ago at Ascot and there has been plenty of winners come from that race which is telling. His fourth last time out was another encouraging run and that is another race I expect to work out well. I’m hoping he gets a softer lead today and I’m expecting a big run.

 

2:15 Exeter

We head back to Exeter for a Handicap Chase over 2m3f. Western Story heads the market but he has too many risks attached for my money.

The one I like here is LIMITED RESERVE. Limited Reserve is unbeaten on heavy ground winning all four of his starts when running on it.  He was a great hurdler and his first two chase starts have been disappointing but I’m hoping he can improve now given he has his ideal conditions and a couple of Chase runs for experience.

 

2:37 Tramore

No bet race but it’ll be a pleasure to watch the reigning Gold Cup winner AL BOUM PHOTO strut his stuff here. He wins and wins well.

 

2:50 Exeter

The finale from Exeter on ITV is a Handicap Chase over 3m and I’m sure there will be only be a few finishers given the heavy ground.

The one for me is HOLD THAT TAUGHT NAP. His 3rd behind Demachine last time out reads well and he’s had a nice break since. He loves getting his toe in so the slow ground won’t be a problem. He was staying on strongly over 3m at Ascot there last time out so I don’t have any stamina concerns.

 

3:05 Musselburgh 

The 3:05 is the finale on ITV and it’s a 2m4f Handicap Chase and it’s a great betting race for us to get stuck into.

It’s ROMAIN DE SENAM for me here. The horse is very well handicapped on his old form with Paul Nicholls and the switch of stables to Dan Skelton is no negative. He was fourth two starts ago over 2m which is too short for him. He was unlucky at Cheltenham last time out where he was brought down before the race developed and I think he will go close off this mark over his preferred race distance here.
