Coeur Serein made a perfectly satisfactory return to action, albeit beaten 20 lengths, behind subsequent winner Camprond in the Grade 2 Persian War Novices’ Hurdle at Chepstow earlier this month and can make a winning debut over fences. Jonjo O’Neill’s 7-year-old had previously completed a hat-trick over hurdles, officially improving 19lb in the process, and stepping back up in distance is in his favour.

Selection: Coeur Serein (11/2 with William Hill)

The beautifully bred Dhowin has won just once from eight starts over hurdles, but takes a drop in class on his steeplechasing debut and may be able to take advantage. The Yeats gelding showed his best form since joining Warren Greatrex when a close third in a 0-130 conditional jockeys’ handicap hurdle at Ascot last December, so must have a sporting chance off an identical handicap mark in this 0-120 contest.

Selection: Dhowin (15/2 with William Hill)

Carlisle: 2:00 Colin Parker Memorial Intermediate Chase 2m4f

Espoir De Romay was still ahead when falling at the second-last fence in the Grade 1 Mildmay Novices’ Chase at Aintree when last seen in April and sets a high standard. A winner on his reappearance last season, the promising 7-year-old has tasted defeat just once over fences – at the hands of Royal Pagaille, who ran in the Cheltenham Gold Cup – and looks one to follow.

Selection: Espoir De Romay (2/1 with William Hill)

Carlisle: 2:35 Dmb Building Ltd Handicap Hurdle 2m4f

French import Grizzly James hasn’t been seen in public since July, 2020, but makes the 250-mile trip up the M6 from Kings Caple for his first run for Venetia Williams and the hint may be worth taking. The son of Grand Prix de Paris winner Montmartre is definitely a ‘dark horse’, but his trainer is 2-9 with her hurdlers at the Cumbrian course in recent years.

Selection: Grizzly James (5/1 with William Hill)

Huntingdon: 2:50 MansionBet Best Odds Guaranteed Novices’ Chase 2m4f

The Cathal Don has changed stables since winning for Henry de Bromhead at Tipperary in July and carries a 6lb penalty for that victory. However, that form has worked out reasonably well, with the second, Poseidon, winning at Cork earlier this month and his previous experience over fences should stand him in good stead.

Selection: The Cathal Don (15/2 with Bet Victor)

Huntingdon: 3:25 MansionBet Watch And Bet Macer Gifford Handicap Chase 2m½f

Jamacho was beaten favourite in a novices’ handicap chase at Sedgefield last time, on just his second start over fences, but must surely have every chance of opening his account over the larger obstacles. Seven times a winner over hurdles, most recently off a 1lb higher mark at Worcester in September, he has conditions in his favour and looks to have been found a good opportunity against limited opposition.

Selection: Jamacho (7/2 with William Hill)
