Cards Betting Tips for Saturday 5th February – Bet on these four players to be booked

Cards betting tips

A new feature for this weekend is our cards accumulator tip and Jamie has picked out four selections from Saturday’s football in the Premier League, Championship and Serie A.

Betting on players to be booked is becoming more and more popular and with that in mind, take a look at the four players we are predicting to be carded across Saturday’s football. These would make up a big odds accumulator at around 140/1 or you could back the selections in a lucky 15 or Yankee bet.

Finding bookies who have priced up all four cards tips is proving difficult but BetVictor and William Hill seem to be ahead of the game.

Blackpool vs Bristol City – Cameron Pring to be carded (5/2 BetVictor)

It’s likely that there’ll be cards in this game with James Linington in charge, the referee that has given the most yellow cards per game on average of any Championship referee this season (10+ games refereed). Blackpool are the fifth most fouled side in the division. Their right-midfielder, Josh Bowler, is an attacking player that has been fouled 34 times in his 18 starts. He is supported by right-back Jordan Lawrence-Gabriel who has been fouled 22 times in 17 Championship starts this season. It is likely that Bristol City, who operate with a 3-4-3 formation, will face a lot of Blackpool’s attacks down that right-side, forcing City’s left-sided players to make fouls.

In the 18 games that Blackpool have played against sides using a formation with 3 centre backs, a left-sided player, whether it be the left centre-back or left wing-back, has been booked in 10 of those 18 games. Both the left centre-back and left wing-back have been booked in the same game on three occasions against Blackpool this season. Bristol City left back Cameron Pring has started as a left centre-back in his last 4 games, being booked in 3 of them. He has been carded 5 times in 17 starts this season, as well as being carded once in 6 substitute appearances. He is a player keen to get stuck in, making 36 tackles and 29 fouls in those 17 starts. Directly opposing Bowler and Lawrence-Gabriel should be a tough task for Pring.

Swansea vs Blackburn – Jan Paul van Hecke to be carded (11/5 BetVictor)

Swansea are the most fouled side in the Championship this season, being fouled 12.8 times per game. They come up against Blackburn who have been given the most cards in the league this season (71 yellow cards and 3 red cards). Tim Robinson takes charge of this game, a referee that has given 88 cards in 19 games this season, the most of any Championship referee.

Both sides here will operate with a formation using 3 centre backs. This season, Swansea have faced a side using this formation in 18 of their 27 games. In 9 of those 18 games, an opposition CB was booked. Swansea’s Ryan Manning is likely to start at left wing-back and he has been fouled 62 times in 23 starts this season, with his direct opponent last game, Luton’s right centre-back, being booked.

Blackburn centre-back Jan Paul van Hecke has been given 7 yellow cards and 1 red card in 15 appearances this season, making 19 fouls. He is a player that makes cynical fouls and was booked in his last game which was against Luton.

Burnley vs Watford – Samir Santos to be carded (11/4 BetVictor)

20th place Burnley meets 19th place Watford in what seems to be a must win game for both sides, meaning that it is likely that there’ll be fouls. Referee Craig Pawson officiates this game, he has given 57 yellow cards in 14 league games this season, giving 9 yellow cards in the last game that he refereed which was between Everton and Aston Villa.

An opposition centre-back has been booked in a third of Burnley’s games. They have recently signed the forward Wout Weghorst from Wolfsburg, a physical striker that started 17 games for Wolfsburg in the first half of the season. In 7 of the 17 games that he started, an opposition centre back was booked, with Weghorst being fouled 31 times.

Watford also made signings in the January transfer window, acquiring the services of Udinese centre-back Samir. A player that was carded 5 times in 17 Serie A games during the first half of the season, making 36 tackles and 33 fouls. His style of football seems to have not been altered since his move to England, being booked once in the 2 games that he has started, making 7 tackles and 5 fouls. Due to the importance of this game, it is likely that Samir will continue to get stuck in, committing fouls.

Roma vs Genoa – Sérgio Oliveira to be carded (21/10 with William Hill)

Genoa’s new manager Alexander Blessin has used a 4-3-3 formation in his 2 games as Genoa boss. In both games under him, Genoa have used a front 3 of Ekuban, Destro, and Yeboah, all players that are highly fouled, especially January signing Yeboah who has been fouled 6 times in these 2 games.

Since switching from a 3-5-2 to a 4-3-3 formation, an opposition CM has been booked in both games. Fiorentina midfielder Torreira was carded, whilst his midfield partner Maleh made 3 fouls without being booked. Genoa’s most recent game was against a Udinese side that operate with a similar formation to Roma, in this game 2 Udinese central midfielders were booked, making 5 fouls between them.

Roma’s January signing Sérgio Oliveira is a central midfielder that is likely to get stuck in. Despite only starting 9 games in all competitions this season, he has been booked on 4 occasions, making 13 fouls in only 640 minutes of football when starting the game. He has started both games since his arrival, being booked on one occasion, against a Cagliari side that uses 3 central midfielders. Referee Rosario Abisso has given over 5 cards per game on average this season and with Genoa being the fourth most fouled side in Serie A, Roma’s midfielders are expected to make fouls.
