West Brom vs Watford Bet Builder Tip, Predictions & 50/1 Betting Tip

West Brom predictions

The final match of the second round of Championship fixtures sees West Brom host Watford at The Hawthorns and we have picked out West Brom vs Watford betting tips for the match,

Both sides have had a decent start to the season, with the home side picking up a hard-earned point in a 1-1 draw at fellow promotion contenders Middlesbrough, and the away side Watford taking all 3 points at home to Sheffield United.

Watford really impressed me on Monday Night Football last week. They faced a resolute and experienced Sheffield United side, but brushed them aside in a comfortable 1-0 victory. Their front three is arguably the deadliest in the division, with Ismaila Sarr and Emmanuel Dennis playing alongside last week’s match winner Joao Pedro. The three have a great understanding and will once again pose a potent threat against The Baggies. I expected Dennis the be the main man last Monday, but Brazilian striker Pedro stood out with his excellent hold-up play and composed finish from Sarr’s cross. I expect Watford to dominate possession tonight and cause West Brom all sorts of problems for tonight’s predictions.

West Brom’s style is much different however and I expect them to have much less of the ball and be tight and compact whilst The Hornets dominate play. They do prove very difficult to beat on their own patch, even in what was a disappointing 21/22 campaign they only lost three matches in front of their home crowd.

Early season tips do come with caution as very little form is hard to judge, but I do expect this one to be tight in what could be an early season clash between two promotion rivals.

Watford to draw or win – Double Chance

These sides haven’t faced off much in recent years, the last fixture being a 1-0 win for Watford in March 2018. The last six in fact were all Premier League fixtures, and Watford have definitely had the better of West Brom in recent history. West Brom have won just the one fixture, with Watford winning three and the points shared in the other two games. I don’t expect that to change tonight, and a safe choice for me is for Watford to at least take a point back to Hertfordshire. As mentioned, Rob Edward’s side impressed on the opening day and I can only see them getting stronger as the season progresses. If they are looking to bounce straight back to the Premier League, they will need to avoid defeat in big fixtures such as this.

Both teams to score

If history tells us anything, it’ll be that this selection is a slightly risky one. Both sides have only found the net against each other in two of their last 6 head to heads. Watford’s attacking threat is obvious for all to see, but West Brom can cause problems themselves with Jed Wallace and Jon Swift promising to create chances for their front line. The two combined themselves against Boro to score the equaliser, with Swift neatly turning in Wallace’s cut back. I’m not overly convinced on Watford’s back line, they were only briefly tested against The Blades and managed to keep a clean sheet, but I don’t see that being the case in this one.

Both Teams to Get 1+ Card

I’ll be surprised if this West Brom vs Watford prediction doesn’t land. West Brom only picked up the one yellow card last weekend, with Swift finding his name in the referee’s notebook. This game will see them face much trickier opposition, so I expect one of their players to be booked. I think that could come in the form of either Jake Livermore or Darnell Furlong. Livermore will look to battle for possession and is known for picking up a yellow. The experienced midfielder picked up nine yellows and one red last term, so I don’t think it’ll be long before he picks up his first of this campaign. Furlong will be up against Dennis down his right hand side, and I can easily see him picking up a yellow whilst trying to breakdown one of Watford’s effective counter attacks.

Watford picked up four yellow cards against United last week, and being away from home this time in front of a lively crowd in the West Midlands I don’t expect a different outcome. Tom Cleverley is the most likely to pick up a yellow for them, having already found himself carded this season. If you wanted a bit of a longshot, all three of Livermore, Furlong and Cleverley to be booked is a massive 50/1 with Bet365. I definitely wouldn’t put you off a few quid on that!

Ismaila Sarr to have 1+ shot on target

You could make a case for any of Watford’s front three to test David Button in the West Brom goal, but I’m going for Sarr to be the man to at least hit the target this evening. Sarr only had two attempts a week ago, neither finding the target, but I expect him to put that right tonight. He’s not afraid to pull the trigger and will look to get in behind the back line with his clever movement. He will look to his attacking partners to supply him in his attempt to get off the mark this year.
