Reasons for this Weekend’s Football Tips

Following a midweek loss at West Ham, Chelsea will aim to enhance their Champions League prospects for next season when hosting struggling Watford. After losing their first two games following the lockdown, Fulham responded by earning a midweek 2-1 win at QPR to boost their promotion ambitions. Despite missing the influential Aleksandar Mitrovic, the Cottagers showed much character after conceding the first goal and now host a Birmingham outfit winless since mid-February, and which has conceded three times in their two previous matches. Only two efforts were registered on target by the Blues during a Wednesday evening 3-0 home defeat by struggling Huddersfield and they are facing another loss.

Just one defeat in nine Championship outings has allowed Leeds to move clear at the top of the league table and their only reverse arrived via a 2-0 loss at a useful Cardiff team. Despite dominating both the possession and efforts on goal statistics, Leeds could only draw 1-1 with a much more resolute Luton outfit on Tuesday evening, but they now visit a Blackburn team which has won just once in seven attempts. Two successive 2-0 defeats ensured Rovers have conceded at least twice in four of their last five fixtures and they could be facing another loss.

Although Luton appeared doomed to relegation from the Championship at one stage this season, they have collected five points and conceded only two goals in three games since the restart of action last month. The return of Nathan Jones as manager has offered the Hatters some hope and they now host a Reading outfit which has earned just one point from three games and were well-beaten by Brentford on Tuesday evening. With the Royals defence proving to more suspect at the moment, Luton could earn another vital win.
