- Walsall vs Charlton
- Bradford vs Blackburn
- Derby vs West Brom
- Newport vs Portsmouth
ODDS – 18/1 with William Hill
Walsall v Charlton BTTS
Walsall are a difficult side; three consecutive wins in all competitions at the start of the season gave their fans reason to believe they could go on to at least qualify for the League Two playoffs with results asking serious questions of their divisional rivals.
But no win in three since has seen them come crashing down to earth, especially against lower-half opponents such as Barrow and Stevenage.
Charlton will be the highest ranked team they’ll face for quite some time, and the Saddlers will find it tough against the Addicks – although Ben Garner’s men are similarly leaky and could allow themselves to field a slightly weakened team to rest their league stars.
Bradford v Blackburn BTTS
A tie pitting these former Premier League regulars against each other may not happen again for a long time; the last outing between this duo bar Blackburn’s venture into League One back in 2017-18 was in 1990.
Now with Blackburn two leagues ahead, they will be expected to score aplenty at Valley Parade against former boss Mark Hughes’ men.
But with the club famously crashing out to Morecambe last season and showing more of a focus on achieving promotion this campaign, a younger team may be preferred which may afford more chances to the Bantams.
Derby v West Brom BTTS
West Brom had been struggling for goals this season under Steve Bruce, but that all changed with the 5-2 win over Hull City at the weekend.
With the wind in their sails, they travel to a Derby side who have took to League One well albeit without threatening often.
Once more, young sides could well be fielded as attention is turned to the midweek games – and goals galore could be had in this all-midlands clash.
Newport v Portsmouth BTTS
Pompey are the definition of ‘goal-laden’ under Danny Cowley at the moment. As League One’s joint-scoring leaders at the moment, they certainly know where the net it and have an abundance of talent in Colby Bishop and Joe Piggott, who can score them goals out of nothing.
But Newport do loves a cup run, and they could prove to be good value for a BTTS at a ground that the Blues generally struggle.
Stockport County v Leicester BTTS
Stockport are back in the EFL after a ten-year hiatus; although not many predicted any Premier League clubs coming to Edgeley Park so early into their return.
Leicester are that side, with Brendan Rodgers’ men having failed to win a single game since the season began and looking as though they are to use Stockport as a training exercise to boost morale.
But with Paddy Madden, Antoni Sarcevic and co, they could be tested despite the result playing into their hands.
